I thought this chapter was very James Bond, stitched up with little bits of humor (when Helen calls Charles 'a horny old bastard' and 'ask room service for a magic lantern rub') and also intrigue, wondering how they're going to dodge the police. Nice quick thinking by Helen to darken Charles up and get him in that exotic get up. It's almost like Crosby and Hope in those pardon my sarong movies. But there is enough menace in the air, with Rasheed out there, and the police looking for two foreigners, plus the Lion. Very James Bond. estory

It?s getting progressively harder to maintain dramatic tension with, the jokey relationship between these two. I wonder whether there?s a comedy/thriller genre. I guess James Bond fits the bill. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty comes to mind, too. As always, I appreciate your comments.

I ought to experiment and see how easily this kind of tan washes off. According to the infallible (LOL) internet, it should last for a couple of days if you exfoliate first. Poor Charles! I hope that?s right.

This is hilarious. A mute manservant carrying her bags and following a step behind as would be expected of one. Was the tea used to colour his whole body as well? I hope they will be able to get on the train without a problem.

I hope, for Charles?s sake, that it doesn?t rain! I guess that, in his position, he?d have no alternative but to hold an umbrella over Helen while he gradually became pale and streaky. Loved your review and super sixer. Thank you so much. Tony.

I appreciate your review, Mike. The plot gets more convoluted as each chapter passes. I?m tying myself up in knots. Only a few chapters left to bring off the Houdini miracle. Thanks for your good luck wishes. I shall need them!

There are advantages to looking like a letterbox apparently. Is the mute thing a bit contrived? It seems to crop up in a lot of mystery stories but how common is it. I have met one in my whole life, a sbelf stacker in my local Sainsbury's.
Despite my doubts I feel the disguise is going to get them safely away.
