I really enjoyed that, Yvette, it was a well thought out, exciting story, and yes, do continue it. Hmm, that will probably happen in the year, 2100, by the time you finish my other favourite story you post once a month!! None of us knows what is happening under our feet, just look at ants! I thought you did an amazing job with this contest. Right from the first sentence, I was hooked. And I just happen to like dinosaurs! lol. Good luck in the contest, my friend, it was a most enjoyable read. :)) Sandra xx

Well, you just put a solid smile on my face, Sandra! I just knew when I glanced down at the word count Friday night (late!) when I finished this that it wouldn't do well cuz it was so long....sigh.... but what's a blonde to do with dinos...AGAIN! :) :) LOL! I am so very glad you enjoyed Eloise... and, yeah, I've gotta stop entering insane contests like this and get caught up on my books with the start of school finally 'finding an even keel'.... but, you know me, I'm drawn to them like Eloise to her cypher-puzzles! ;) :) Thank you again, Beautiful Lady, and I promise to get caught up on reviewing tomorrow after I get my boys back on the road! ;) :) Take care! ;) Yvette

You have a fabulous imagination, Yvette! Good for you to take up this challenge as it's hard to write such a long piece but you got us to like our heroine and root for her in this secret world with the friendly, intelligent dinosaurs and other creatures.

In your notes, there are the graffiti but you seemed to have reversed the author names:
" From Verne's Lost World and Doyle's Journey to the Center of the Earth." Doyle did the Lost World and Verne wrote Journey to the Center of the Earth. Loved Verne when I was in grade school.

This certainly meets the contest requirements, although it seemed to ramble on when Leo entered the picture. Thanks for sharing. Good luck in the contest voting.

There is so much to enjoy in your ramble of a story - I am glad I persevered even though Fantasy is not a genre I have spent any time with previously. Worth a 6 but none left.
Your mathematician's interests make it believably informed. It is a beautifully written futuristic and lesson-riddled story, which also clearly shows the panic generated by things not understood.

Some of your passages are classic:
"another crime spree pattern that needed the next crime predicted, or another crowd panic pattern that needed predicting based on past behavior and current culture, or who the heck knew what else."

... and I loved how you expressed this:
"I sounded more like a sick chicken scratching in a bed of click-beetles"

This is worth remembering for focus:
"Knowing that my mind worked better without my hindering it, I disengaged my wandering thoughts"

And this might explain why so much modern music is so unmusical:
"it sounds better under water since the composer was a shark".

Thanx for taking the time to read this on, L-M -- it truly means a lot that you did so!! ;) :) And, yeah, I'm with you on the modern music!! ;) :) Take care! ;) Yvette

It was my pleasure (not the modern music, obviously!)

I couldn't stop reading this...it is so terrific. Wish I had a six, Yvette. I have always liked sci-fi, but mostly the early stuff like Heinlein and Norton, as well as Chalker (I think that's how it's spelled). You have an outstanding start for a series. Best wishes in the contest!!!

This is a very interesting, imaginative piece. Dinosaurs and large bugs, not what I'd expected when I began, but it was a nice surprise. The ending is perfect. There very well could be parallel universes. Nicely done.

(Sigh) So it seems, that no matter where you move to, tn matter how carefully you plan, you always seem to move right next to those pesky neighbors you were trying to get away from in the first place. This story sort of reminded me of Alice when she followed that harried rabbit down his hidey-hole. Hmm, will have to think about that to consider if I'd prefer talking caterpillars with hookahs, mad-hatters, Tweedledee and Tweedledum or a Queen shouting "Off with their heads!" to dinosaurs. I still believe in Santa Clause, so the possibility of dinosaurs still lumbering around is not all that far-fetched to me. As ever and best of luck in the contest. Loren

This meets the contest requirements splendidly as you deliver a complete story proving your false fact in the appropriate number of words. It progresses in a logical manner and is easy to follow. While the pace tends to lag at times, the overall tone is one of fluid movement. Good luck in the voting and thank you very much for sharing it.

A very well-written story of a woman who changed her identity and find a mysterious place very far from modern developed cities and towns to discover that dinosaurs are not completely wiped out.
