Best wishes with your contest entry. Yes, flatline it would become. Ups and downs, just like life, stumbling blocks that make us get up and climb again. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, one must get up and try again.

What a treat to read this! Something refreshingly new and unexpected... and may I also add very clever? The road reminded me (though the trees are different) of a road outside Yellowknife, NWT Canada, and your final words "flat-line" was brilliant. Thank you posting this.

This one made me smile, because it made sense. For all that we complain about the ups and downs, the alternative is not better. Just go with the flow, one step at a time. Great advice in a few short lines.

Indeed life is a series of ups and downs and turns in the highway of existance until we do eventually lie down flat and start pushing up the daisies.
I have a chaotic time of things but it will certainly make for interesting memoirs down the track lol
We have a very straight highway in one of the states over here in Oz and it is so boring, there is NO speed limit. I think sooner or later you would be aching for a few turns and twists to keep it interesting and could well just take a nose dive off the road to spice things up a bit and rise to a bit of a challenge haha

This is a good cinquain poem, DD :) It's a great message that gets readers thinking. I have read where we learn the most from the dips in the road. So I guess the ups and downs aren't so bad. They just feel awful when we are going through them.
