Thanks for the review Chrissy. Dean had a wonderful sense of humour and I thought this was just humourous enough at this sober time.
He was such a compassionate and patient mentor to so many here. Did we not all get a little thrill to see that Dean had reviewed one of our poems? I did. Cheers, j

Yes you are so right I remember the absolute thrill when he gave me a six also I admired him very much
-
Yes, not only was Dean a fantastic poet in all genres, he also shared his talent with compassion and patience. So many newbies recall how he encouraged them in early days. He taught me the usefulness of the internal rhyme. He will be missed.

Jude,
Who will hold that horror pen around here now that Dean is gone?? All those ghouls and ghosts and goblins will just be lost in limbo, I suppose. --sigh-- What a sad perspective~!!! But so appropriate. Thank you!

Thanks robyn, I think having a page for everyone to connect and reminisce is so wonderful, so thank you for that. Yeah, I imagined all the ghouls, ghosts and undead just passing time patiently waiting for Dean to bring them to life, was just humourous enough for this sober time. He had a wonderful sense of humour. We will miss our Dean. Cheers j

Excellent tribute, my dear. I love the creative approach to describe his characters bidding him adieu. Great flow and rhyming. THe last stanza is my favorite.
A couple of punctuation suggestions:
Zombies, ghouls and demons
play checkers(,) patiently,(;)
a restless, scaled skeletal hand,
taps the table rhythmically.
I particularly applaud staccato's whispers, the alliteraiton of W, S, H and D and the consonance of S in the closing:
In staccato'd whispers,
they share the wicked news.
Holding hands, as one they stand,
to bid dear Dean a dieu.
RIP
Love,
rd

Thanks for the insightful review and corrections. I would never think to use ; but I like it. Move over wavy, horizontal line, ha ha.
Yes, wicked news. Dean was such an incredible poet, in all genres. I would be thrilled when he reviewed any of my poems.
Kind, compassionate and patient.
I imagined all the little ghouls waiting around patiently for him to bring them to life with his words.
We will miss him.
Cheers.

This posting is very appropriately named. Known on FanStory as a master writer of horror, that is the feeling the tragic news brought to so many of his friends. The sadness continues, and yet, a tiny bit of the sorrow is counterbalanced by knowing how many people cared so deeply for this gifted writer.

This is an excellent poem for the tribute book for Dean. It is well-written and descriptive, including details that would really resonate with him. I was shocked and saddened by the news of his death!

We are reeling. We can only hope to leave such a loving legacy in our wake. He was truly loved. Thanks for the encouraging review, I could just imagine the phantasmic fiends just waiting around to come to life with his imagination. Cheers, j

It is sad our Dean has gone to bigger and better places high up in the sky. He fought it for many years now but it won in the end it was his time to finally go

A very well-written tribute to Dean, I am sure he is smiling when he sees this beautiful words that is quite the way he would like to say it himself.

Thanks for the review Sandra, I learned so much from his writing. Like the internal rhyme and some great words. I imagined in my poem, that all the little monsters are just waiting to come to life by his imagination, cheers, j

well, you very cleverly captured Dean's characters who are probably doing just that. A neat way to say good bye.
well done.
PS - was it known that he was ill? I did not know until a little while ago that he had died. That is so sad.
You wrote a very appropriate piece, I think,

Thanks for the thoughtful review. I wanted a humourous, yet poignant poem for Dean, because he had a wonderful sense of humour. The idea of all his phantasmic fiends waiting around for him to bring them to life with his poetry, seemed just funny enough in such a sober time. Cheers, j

Judy, this is so brilliantly and lovingly written, and so perfect for the way so many of us remember him. The funny part is that, one day, I commented to him about his prolifery for horror stories, and he was quick to mention that he wrote many other types of things as well. I went into his portfolio and discovered how true that was. What all of his works had in common was that he invested them each with his full heart and soul. This is a very fitting tribute.

Cheers. He was genius in all genres. I love that he showed me the beauty of the internal rhyme. I thought that all his phantasmic fiends waiting around for him to bring them to life, was just enough humour for this sober time. Cheers, j
