That First Love

Gosh, those memories can be brutal, can't they? Hell, even I find myself wondering waaaay back there sometimes... the anticipation, the excitement, oh-and all the first! Then, yeah, the pain.... and the lessons learned and adjustments made in our attitudes that still remain with us in many ways... Adored this one because of the raw truth that comes through in that 'gently romantic and grandly traditional' Ronni style -- enough detail to give the reader's mind an image of their own to envision with the emotions that play through it...wonderful! ;) You make one realize that there are certain things (like your beach here) that we will never be able to look at the same again... :/ :/ Thanx for such a wonderful offering, my lady! ;) ;) Yvette
P.S. So sorry for the delayed review - the beginning of school combined with getting the boys off to college (they're all out there now - so quiet round here!!) has me struggling to find a routine... I PROMISE to be there soon - and, believe me, that's more for the OCD blonde over here than for you - LOL! ;) ;) Take care!

Hi dear Yvette,
Love your thoughts and comments on this one, excerpted from
yellowed page from my diary written waaaay back then (as you
aptly put it,) still in woes, throes of this mystery beau then. He
took me to a Military Ball as date, a blast in itself, and then to
beach for further chat and cool breezes (it was summertime)
needless to say, between whirlwind dances and enchanting beach;
fascinations ranked supreme and illusions subtly groaning on
the sidelines; thus the typical 'first love' infatuation that sooner
went awry. Better discretions learned thereafter...but still that
'first love' kind of draws the line in the sand one keeps tripping over nonetheless, even in latter years and wisdoms LOL
Thanks for the easy chair kind of overview, so like your style,
which I find most bemusing and intriguing. Likewise for your
kind compliments on the "Ronni style", wasn't aware I had one LOL
Was fun to share, glad you enjoyed dear friend.
Blessings always, Ronni

Memories are like the photo as they give us a feeling of peace in the mist of life. May your week be blessed with joy, peace and good memories,

The lovely picture and color drew me into reading this poem. What a sad and poignant tale that makes me wonder if he left of his own free will or if something happened to him. Good job.

Thank you for your appreciations and lovely comments on
this poem, sincerely appreciated. Sadly, I never found out
the what or why myself. This was a early College beau/first
love, and never returned the following semester, and never
ever knew anyone close to him to find out.
Thanks for such empathetic sharing and reflections....
Best wishes, Ronni

First off I loved the picture, very nice and animated at that.
I love the thought of a first love because I think many of us can relate to that. Many times the words you use always paints a picture and we are never at a lost to see that picture unfold before our eyes. Thank you once again for a very lovely. well done.
Been a bit busy myself trying to get my second book done, and been working on a Poetry Poster of all things, hopefully it will be out soon. Hope you are doing well, take care

I like the expression: "twinkle in the eyes." A poem about found love that fades away over time, and ends up at the starting point - the beach. Good luck with the contest.

My favorite part of the poem is the ending. I like that you reference the beach again. This poem captures both the mood of first love and the mood of how it feels when it ends. We never forget our first love. I didn't care for the phrase "oh so debonair", but that is just personal preference.

Thank you for your kind and most perceptive thoughts and
comments shared, glad you enjoyed the read. You aced it all
so perfectly. I take appreciative note on that odd phrase.
This was a post HS beau/first love, and out of my diary file
as written back then, thus a bit overly expressive phrase due
to then youth's dialogue and perception.
Thanks again for the personal note; I always appreciate
such constructive suggestions.
Best wishes, Ronni

The combination of your lovely poem and the stunning artwork that you chose to complement your work, fit well together. However, I think your poem would stand alone.

Thank you for adding the mesmerizing artwork to this capturing of your memories of your "First Love". Your description of your encounters on that "unforgettable beach" is quite evocative. Sighs- Joan

Hello Sunshine Gal,
Thanks for the great comments, glad you enjoyed the presentation.
Alas, this was a post HS beau/first love, so some time back indeed!
Relievedly, we eventually learn better discretions.
Take care, have a fantastic weekend,
Hugs as ever, Ronni

Ronnie, how precious is this! sounds like we have the same taste in men, dark, wispy locks! oh yeah. You transport me a time in my youth when these sentiments ruled; but alas, timing was not right, and now he is gone from this earth - but never from my heart! thanks for creating such a perfect piece! xoxo Consider this a virtual 6 please!!!

Hello dear Diana,
Indeed, we seem be discovering more similaraties between us...LO..
Glad you enjoyed and so graciously shared your own experiences
so appreciably dear! Alas, those first love's sometimes have
no expiration dates, too often the futile ones. You are indeed
keeping yours in the perfect place forevermore.
Have a fabulous weekend dear!

And I hope you are enjoying yours too my friend! I am enjoying a weekend and all next week with my son in Chicago for my vacation this year. He is two blocks from Lake Michigan and on the 12th floor so the view is incredible! Plus I hardly ever get to see him now even though Chicago is only a hour and a half away. it?s just really hard to get up here! xoxo
