A very moving poem about a growing child who decided to enlist ! I love how you build up the momentum and link everything to the symbolic door, good job ! The conversations were very fluid, and well inserted in the poem. Best wishes

Beautiful! I think every mother will understands this feeling you're talking about. Mine is upstairs hallway the door to the attic. Inside the door every child who has lived with us their height is measured with name and date. It's our children, several foster children, exchange students who lived with us for a year each, and now grandchildren. If I ever move that door goes with me! Your poem is beautifully written.
God bless!

This deserves a six star and I don't have one. I can relate to certain objects holding vast memories. This poem is a lifetime in few words. Excellent job! Let it stand as is!!

Oh, Linda, I am so very glad this one was able to touch you, Wonderful Lady!! ;) :) Things are nutty over here -- nutty and emotional, I guess, would be a good way of putting it: we'll be bringing our 'baby' to college in the morning and, of course, the school year started back this week as well... :/ :/ Think I might have had just about enough of the teaching since, more and more, it's about managing parent expectations rather than actually teaching and honestly interacting with the students... :( But we'll see... I'm not making any decisions one way or another.... just know the house will be a lot quieter this year, ya know?? :) And please be sure to tell your granddaughter THANK YOU for me ... thanx for her service and for the special heart and strength it takes to do that and to make that decision!! ;) :) Finally, thank you, my lady, for these lovely stars -- you are, as always, a very special FS friend!! ;) :) Take care and check in more often if you think about it!! ;) ;) Yvette

A lifetime of memories are contained in an old screen door. You tell this very well. It makes me remember how many memories are in the house I've lived in for thirty-plus years.

Thanx so very much, Thomas, for your wonderful review, sir - and you're so very right... there are memories in all sorts of places in our houses that we just don't think about.... until we do... :) ;) Take care and have a wonderful weekend! ;) Yvette

It is a treat to read you, Yvette. :) You place your heart and soul in whatever you write. This poem is for the parents whose child joined the service. They see their child from infancy, growing and getting big. Yet, those apron strings do not want to let go. Quite beautiful, Lady. Your baby is he thinking about doing the same? This is a good entry for the Rhyming Poetry Contest.

Not at the moment, he's off to college tomorrow (I can't believe they'll all be gone, Jose!!), but I think out of all of them he might be the one leaning in that direction... we'll see. I've just put it in God's hands for now... ;) :) Thanx for your wonderful review on this one, sir, and I hope a little of this mildness that started yesterday has found y'all over there as well -- take care! ;) ;) Yvette

I found this exceptional; what a wonderful correlation between the significance of the storm door and all the memories it holds. Only a mom would understand and be so sentimental as to when her son was small and the stages of life as he grows up, and the meaning and memories between herself, her son and the storm door. Life brings us many storms as I'm sure she hopes and prays for her son's safe return after entering into the military, then it can be time to replace the door, but 'til then, it stays! Perfect picture with the flag, home sweet home mat and of course the door.

Oh, Kathleen, this is such a wonderful review and I thank you so much for your time and for those stars, Beautiful Lady!! ;) :) And you're so right that only a mom understands... there's just something about the way our hearts remember as opposed to our minds, you know?? :) Thanx for the review and take good care out there! ;) Yvette

I've often heard of people seeing memories when looking at old home decorations. Your poem explained it brilliantly! Lovely tribute at the end too, so sweet.

Awe. Things help remind us of the wonderful times we have had or the moments we have lived through.
I think keeping the door till he comes home safe is a tribute to your son.

Ms. Roger,
Unfortunately, I don't have any Six star ratings left to give. This definitely deserves one. What a beautiful poem of a child and of those little things we take for granted that can bring a flood of memories, like a storm door!
I especially enjoyed the line "don't let it--WHACK--slam."

I will gladly take the wonderful gift of your virtual six, MB -- the fact that this one seems to have touched you as it did is such a wonderful feeling for me as the poet.... and you have chosen my FAVORITE line of the poem for yours: you know, my boys constantly let our storm door slam no matter how many times we told them not to! :) Thanx for dropping by today and be sure to stop by any time! ;) Yvette
