Unique entry for the acrostic contest. Who would have thought of using hitmen for the subject? These hired killers are so ruthless. You mention some interesting ways in which they dispose of their victims. They can make them disappear without a trace. You give some interesting background on DeMeo, for one, and he was certainly a savage guy. I hope he paid the price for the murders he committed. judi

Talking about La Mafia and its misdoings in my country is like talking about pasta ...it's a subject that pops up always.
Riina, one of the most powerful bosses of Cosa Nostra in Italy, was arrested on Oct. 1993.
He ordered the death of a top ranking Sicilian politician (whose brother is now the President of our country Mattarella) .....the victim was shot dead in his car 1980.
He ordered the death of two anti-mafia magistrates that were both killed in two separate bomb attacks in May and July 1992.
He had kidnapped the 10 year old son of a mafia man who had been caught soon after the bombings and had decided to collaborate with the police.
Riina thought the turncoat would stop talking during the interrogations but he didn't so in the end, after being tortured for two years, the kid was strangled and dissolved in acid so there would be no evidence of the crime.
Riina wasn't scared of the state.
He died in Nov. 2017 in the prison hospital.
When Riina was only 17 his father ordered him to strangle to death a businessman who had been kidnapped in the countryside.
Re DeMeo : People that live by the gun usually die by it.
DeMeo was murdered ..gunned down .....because the FBI was getting on to him and the Mafia considered him a liability for the organization.. three in his private circle (who were all professional killers and aides ) killed him during a meeting.

.....no worries I'm not Sicilian and when I have a problem with someone I just talk it out with him or her.

The beginning letters of the poem have a different letter that begins each line, and those letters must go in alphabetical order for the first four lines.... the last line can begin with any letter. If you want to touch on the highlighted ABC Contest line, it will tell you more.

The beginning letters of the poem have a different letter that begins each line, and those letters must go in alphabetical order for the first four lines.... the last line can begin with any letter. Ciao Sugarray, I edited the last line and wrote it on one line
So now I have T, U, V and W representing the first 4 lines and then my last line begins with a S ......... I was able to fit it all on one line.
If you check it out on your PC it should be right now.

It has always struck me as ironic that they could live right down the street from people and never harm hem and also go to Catholic Sunday Mass. And now the mafia is from Russia and hacking me and many of my friends on our computers. They are more insidious than the big city mafia. The slice and dice our bank accounts, our sensibilities, our confidence and even our identity. here are no redeeming qualities in the new mafia. Well, you go me started. That's one of the purposes of writing to get people to react. Hopefully, the reader will feel something from the subject matter you write about.

Their moral compass is incomprehensible.
I knew about cyber crimes but I didn't know the Russian mafia specifically was behind these attacks.
I was born before the computer era and honestly I was not keen to change but eventually, you were forced to.
Got my first mobile and PC in December 2010...
Two years ago someone hacked into my bank account and stole 200 euros ..it was not a large amount and I was refunded after the bank investigated but the ordeal left me feeling vulnerable.
Sorry, I didn't expect my wee poem to cause such a strong reaction...

I'm sorry you also are one of the statistics. There are many of us. It is very unnerving. They especially prey on us pre-computer era folk. I now know there is no such group called Microsoft support or Windows Support which will contact us by phone or computer message.

Okay! That was very specific to say the least! LOL Actually, it was interesting to read. I always wondered if cement shoes were used and if they really tied the body to cement bricks or heavy stones then tossed them over the side of the boat.

I am glad you enjoyed the read ...yes when a body needs to disappear mafia hitmen have several inventive options.
Most political targets or people considered a threat to their authority are just bombed because the Mafia wants to send a message like in ......
May 1992 anti-mafia magistrate Giovanni Falcone, his wife and three police officers of his escort die in a bomb arrack
and in July 1992 when Paolo Borsellino, (friend of Falcone and also an anti-mafia magistrate) was killed along with five members of his police escort by another bomb.
