I remember coaches teaching some classes with a movie projector. I thought I was one of the only schools that did that. Also, I can remember going outside during P.E freezing the bum off as you've so eloquently stated. I like this and enjoyed reading this well written work. Well done!

I like your poem very much... it seems to cover the era of my own high school days, you up there and me down here with an Australian education. The sports were different - it was field hockey, tennis and softball for me - but the rest of it similar.
Your limericks flow well and I like your humour.

We did field hockey as well...not enough courts for tennis, although lessons in the summertime were fun. Thanks much for your great comments!

We had huge sportgrounds at our high school... it was brand new and at a time when sport was being encouraged.

Hello Mystery Writer. This reminds me of my HS days back before electricity and cars. I remember civics and because of the teacher, I despised it. I am shocked at how little modern students know about America and "civics." That is taking a toll on the country. I liked your poem.

This limerick suite, Yes We All Had to Take Them, has the general format correct displayed in three stanzas and reminds of the IBM Selectric drills, coach-led classes to nowhere, and gym classes with no t8me to shower. Yay school.

I enjoyed reading this limerick about the high school days. Yes everyone had to endure certain classes in which you learned nothing new. Glad we were able to graduate and study something where we actually learned something more productive.

I like how you capture the absolute mundane routine of these classes and how kids occupy their time when school bores. You follow the limerick rhythm expertly, and the photo is a treat!

Great four stanza limerick here and although i am not old enough to have had old movie reels and typewriters/word processors, we still had overhead projectors, keyboard typing pools (office studies), blackboards and chalk, so I know where you are coming from! Certainly made me reminisce and we had all kind of easy back then although we didn't know it! True to form and raised a chuckle so well done here!

The good old school days. How I wish I was still there. NOT! I hated school. During my senior year, the principle beat me up and had me arrested. The only reason he allowed me to graduate was to get rid of me.

Civics, typing and P-E, high school subjects for my long ago generation.
Funny how the courses in high school have changed over the year with technology. Time has come presenting new approaches that our younger generation do not have a clue. Funny young people just can not imagine the idea of a typewriter as a tool. Writing about high school let's us remember the pass.

I understand exactly what you mean. School was so much different, but in the sixth grade, in was in a little cabin with a wood burning stove (but only because the main school building was overcrowded because of all the kids born right after WWII). You did a great job with this chain of limericks, which I thoroughly enjoyed!
