I don't know who you are but honest to God this is the funniest thing I've read lately. I'm still laughing so hard, I can hardly compose myself. I taught church nursery school for years and I know a little bit about what this is like and just how fast a little kid can go from being an angel to being an absolute tyrant. I'm also a mom, so I can relate.

Sending you my best today and for the contest. You're the winner in my eyes.

Love it - laughed with you (not at you) - I can only imagine teaching kindergarten - and we have four sons - so I've been there (at home.) Great story - and the shop part was interesting - my bro/law taught shop for years - he had some grand (and strange ) adventures. But he stuck it out.
Great.

What funny stories and I agree! I subbed for 20 years and can attest that kindergarten ain't easy. I did a long term sub in kindergarten once. My ears hurt from their squeaky little voices and I was pestered all day with them poking their little fingers on my arm saying, "Teacher, Jason offended me," "Tracy made a racial slur." And then my husband asked me about the horizontal black and blue stripes across the fronts of my thighs. Oh, well, that was from bumping into the little chairs and tables all day. I think I'll stick with high school, but even then, I subbed in an honors chemistry class and the teacher had some junk food - Twinkies, glazed donuts, etc. in the store room she was going to have the kids analyze for chemical properties. Some of the kids sneaked back early from lunch and ate all of them! So, you never know! Thanks for sharing your laughs.

Maybe you should write a story about your experiences. I think you must live close to me, you said something about going yo Edinboro. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review my story.

I have lots of stories about my subbing. I plan to enter them eventually. I now live near Atlanta, the sunny south. Don't missed the snow!

A most fascinating story from start to finish! I never realized how hard substitute teachers had it. You told it with a wonderful bit of humor and that's what really made it flow! Also like the way you used ain't instead of isn't. Neat artwork to go with it. Best of wishes with this contest entry!

Thank you very much. Funny you liked the use of ain't, another reviewer gave me four stars because of it. I appreciate the six stars, especially on a Friday.

I feel your pain! I worked at an elementary school for 6 years has a custodian that included lunch duty. Kindergarteners were by far the worst. The things they can do with food to make a mess. Some students were truly gifted at this task. Great job!

Good luck in the contest!
Have a great day and God bless.

After getting through the repartition of substitute teacher (very un-necessary, in your first two paragraphs), as the intro has been made, and " I'd rather serve a year tour in Iraq" ( years tour) this is a great read, and it must be hard teaching these little ones, a great entry for this prompt, best wishes****kahpot

And I enjoyed all 792 of them . You are right , sub teachers roles are hard as you can't get to know the kids and what makes them tick individually and as you found out ,even learning the simple house rules takes its time . Great story . Really enjoyed it . Thanks for sharing . Was that really the name of the university ?

We have the same sort of teachers here, they are basically not in permanent work, but are quite often retired, like my wife who was retired but still did some contract work but also relief work, although a language high school faculty head in her former she would sometimes caretake and babysit send graders. But the difference she was a better daily wage to a permanent teacher., it wasn't easy work, they aren't treated with respect sometimes, well done, good writing, blessings, Roy
