This is a well written sonnet. It flows well and respects the form and has good imagery. I enjoyed reading it. Thanks for sharing this and have a really great day

Thank you so much. Although it was a challenge, I enjoyed writing it - and sharing it with him.

Hello Susan, you've done very well seeing this is your first sonnet. I like the form, it is the best one out of the many different types of poems you can write, sonnets and nonets. Some forms have the life squeezed out of them with too many rules. The syllable counters are the worst death by poetry for me, da dum da dum da dum ... I just want to give them a drum/or preferably a gun, and tell them to go and play on the motorway, lol

It is a mother's lot for their little ones to leave and flap and fly. Very hard I imagine. Boys can be especially tricky as they do some pretty dangerous things, while girls can be more circumspect. Generalizing, I know, but it is an observation I have made in the large family I belong to. Thanks for sharing your sonnet and best of luck in the competition. Eve.

I can hear the tears behind the words, missing that beloved son as he sets out on his own, knowing he must go, wishing he could stay. How wonderful that he encouraged you to write this sonnet, how appropriate that you dedicated it to him.

This sonnet follows the pattern of the Shakespearean form faithfully, not onli in rhyme scheme and metre but in the ordered way the piece progresses through the first two quatrains into the volta in its traditional place at line nine, and ending with a couplet of exhortation to the subject of the poem.

I am giving this a six! I felt the overpowering love you feel for your son, and I love the Garden of Verses idea. The creativity and warmth you convey are amazing, especially given the fact that you have lost a child, every mother's worst nightmare. This poem is beautiful!

And very nice too! I'm glad your son challenged you, but silly poetry has its place too. I love to be entertained and I find a wide range of forms that perform that. You must have studied the form before writing if this is your first.

Thank you. I just drew from what I?d learned in high school but a fanstory friend helped me tweak it.

Hi Susan. This is so nice. I think your son had a wonderful idea to write a sonnet/serious poem and you met the challenge. I like your project of decoupaged poems for the woods. Marilyn

Hi Susan

I think this an excellent sonnet and so worthy as an entry into your contest. I noticed the last time I spoke with my grown son he had somehow softened towards me. Love like you hold for your boy comes through loud and clear. Good luck. xoxo Kiwi

Your son did us a favor by challenging to you to to do something wonderful. You did us a favor by accepting that challenge and fulfilling it. Not only is this poem wonderful to read, the story of how it came to be is refreshing as well. Bravo.
