-Nice image, Melissa.
-The syllable count is
good, and the use of
one continuous thought
is effective.
-Good imagery, rhyme, and topic,
as well as personification of it.
-The imagery also adds to
the message in the poem.
-Good luck in the contest.

It's not easy to create a rhymed and metered write and still meet the requirements of this limited syllable contest.

Add the effective alliteration of "soaked in somber grey" and your poem becomes a technical masterpiece. Kudos!

Many possible meanings for this glimpse of life's journey. But I choose to see it as the road of atonement that leads in the end to salvation through a "narrow way."

Good luck in the contest.

Blessings Julia

It is good to see one of these shortform poems making sense and being poetically expressed into the bargain. This is a lovely little gem. You have also chosen an excellent picture to accompany it.

Thank you very much, Jim. I think it is a bit negative, but that was my day yesterday... I hope for a brighter today. I am getting so much out of the class, Thank you.

"Along a Broken Road", is short, succinct and very much to the point. Woven through each short line are the golden threads of truth. To me, this is a six,but sadly I've run out of them. I look forward to seeing your next post

For victory, for the time being, wounded spirits continue their struggle for living, and now they travel on a broken road through a narrow way; well said, well done. Liked and enjoyed the read. Keep Writing, Inspiring, Changing

Sugarray, this is a good entry for the 5 line poem.
The opening two lines - wounded spirits - create the atmosphere of this descriptive piece with rhyme and a perfect picture choice to enhance the feel. Great job! I like it! ~DD

Thanks, DD. I am glad you liked this gray piece... I normally do not write such negative pieces, but I like to shake things up a bit.

Wow! Quite striking and poignant. Both your poem and the artwork. For some reason, you made me think of Wuthering Heights.
Thanks so much for sharing and good luck in the contest.

'wounded spirits' is an excellent way to describe those who are down and struggling with life. You have written a moving 5 line poem and I wish you well in the contest!

(That is a striking picture--very reminiscent of Ansel Adams' beautiful photos. It fits perfectly with your message.)

This well-written piece movingly describes those who are downcast
and losing--or have lost--hope, feeling that their choices in life have been lost or irreparably damaged.
