It seems that age catches up on us all of a sudden. Once you get past 30, it seems that life just races on by. It seems like one day we were young and then, we look in the mirror and wonder what happened as you've so eloquently stated. I enjoyed reading this well written work. Well done.

Hi Jeffrey. Yes, as you said, that change we notice in the mirror happens when we enter our fourth decade. I am delighted you enjoyed this Quatern. Many thanks for your kind praise.

This is so close to me that I shudder. Inside I feel like a young girl, giggly and atwitter - but my mirror shows me an old lady with the ravages of time ironed into her face. Where young men used to smile slyly, now they do not see me. How well you have written this poem. I wish you the best in the competition for a well-presented writing.

Thank you so much, MISS SHERRY, for sharing my Quatern. I am sad you can relate so well to the Speaker. It's bad enough to GET old. Do we have to look the part, too?

I so agree...so I plaster on a smile and it eases out some of the ravages.

A mirror only reflects what it sees, Author. It does not see the deeds you've done, the children you have grown and the love you shown. Age is the beauty of what makes one special. :) If you smile the mirror will reveal the truth, for beauty is in the inside. This is a good entry for the Mirror Contest.

You are so correct, poetwatch. I think the Speaker understands this when he reflects upon his own sincere smile. Many thanks for sharing my Quatern.

I look in the mirror nowadays and I wonder what happened to that young man I used to see. I am sure a lot of us on FanStory can relate to this. Well written, good luck in the contest.

Oh dear. I see from your poem and your author notes that the aging process is presenting some issues.

Since this is an excellent write I hope it will do well in the prompt. That will cheer you up.

Oh, please please enjoy your birthdays again. Each day of life is a gift.

Blessings Julia

I agree, Julia, that each day of life is a blessing?as long as I can ignore that mirror. Many thanks for your kind praise of my Quatern.

A happy Thursday to you fellow poet. Good luck in the mirror contest, writing prompt. I can't speak for everyone, but I know I have days where I feel exactly like you do. This old man looking back at me in this mirror couldn't possibly be me. Good job and good luck again.

Yes, his burled wood face still may have a glow in his eyes. Sometimes, the mirror distorts one's image in the funny mirror at the carnival. All is in the eye of the beholder/possessor, especially for the older ones.

Very nice verse for this contest entry. Your selected illustration is a most engaging one and will certainly bring attention to your post.

Good luck in the future voting.

Dear Mystery Poet,

I had to laugh at your descriptions of this mirror-looking party. Oh, wow. Don't you love those moments? The secret is to go by the mirrors much more rapidly so you don't get that really close-up view. hahahaha

Thanks and good luck!

Hello mystery writer. The poem is an interesting view of how the MC sees a reflection in the mirror and begins to judge the appearance of the subject. Some people do have a reluctance to see themselves as they age. It is a badge of honor.

Thank you, Robert, for sharing WHOSE FACE IS THIS? I have never thought of my aging face to be a ?badge of honor,? but I suppose it is.

Sad but true... we can become strangers to ourselves when on the inside we understand (or self-delude) ourselves to be much younger! I like your poem... it flows along well with a topic that many of us will relate to.

The first time I had this experience was right after shaving the full beard I'd had for ten years. Many thanks, Lisa, for sharing my Quatern.
