I enjoyed the story. It was amusing. I've never been a Boy Scout or served in the military, so I probably didn't get as much out of it as I would have, had there been some more familiarity. Since you are a top ranked author, I'll look forward to more good things from you soon!

    A four star rating means the work is good but revisions are needed. Could you clarify the revisions needed for o have gotten a five star rating from you?

    Hi Earl,
    My bad. I'm a newbie, and didn't understand the specific meanings of the star ratings. But since you asked, there seem to be some random capitalizations in the manuscript. One that specifically jumped out for me was the word "dolly". In this context a dolly is an object, not a proper name, so it doesn't need to be capitalized. The same could be said for "white out", which began it's life as a proper name, but over the years became a generic term, like kleenex or band aid. In that case it's your preference to capitalize or not. Those are nit picky little things that don't detract from the story. Is there a ratings guide someplace on this site? And is there a way to change a rating?

Fabulous!! Prior military myself. Love hearing (and telling) these stories too! Have a few doozies for sure.

I bet getting caught out didn't stop you from pulling these jokes on the next newbie. I laughed at the things you made Smuckatelly do. But I think he outsmarted you, and even got a date.

I haven't heard anyone mention snipe hunts in a long time. Enjoyed this story very much.

It was an amusing little tale, I liked the twist at the end when Smuckatelly gets you in trouble and you have to do push ups because of the jokes you were playing on him. The in and out dialogue gave some perspective to the parable, and also put us in the middle of the action when appropriate. estory

A very well-written story about a witty newbie that got the older soldiers in trouble while trying to make a fool of Smuckatelly and receive the punishment themselves even more severe.

I love this story, and I have to agree with The Sergeant, you deserved to be punished for carrying this on for three days. I am forming a picture of Smuckatelly in my head, and I do like the fella! Good story!
