A worthy obscure word contest entry. Perhaps a rapacious poem for the contest award. LoL. My weak attempt at humor. No edits or adjustments necessary.

i have seen this word before and often it was used for 'greedy'. But this meaning is more picturesque because one seizes mainly out of greed. All the best for the contest.

Thanks for reading! I thought a beautiful word to relate with the eagle as they are in the top 3 of rapacious beings (lions are raking # 1 i think). xo

Nice poem. I enjoyed reading it, and loved your unique choice of words. It makes your poem seem very professional. In fact, some words were so new to me, that I had to look them up :), which is a good thing, because along with reading your poem for fun, you also can teach the readers some new words. Good luck in the contest. xoxo

I guess eagles are prone to seize anything, especially when they have young to feed. I wouldn't want to be a small animal with them around. Good luck in the contest.

Yes, they get a bad rap when it comes to things they seize! There are even stories of grabbing little children and farm animals, but nothing compared to seeing them soaring the heavens! :) Appreciate that you read and left me awesome feedback! xoxo

Rapacious is a nice word that you rarely hear in daily talk. I like the way you used the word to describe an eagle. The photo gives meaning to the poem.

Thank you! The eagle is my favorite bird. I love their majestic wing span and how they mate for life, each taking full responsibilty for taking care of young and getting food for them! Xoxo

You are welcome. It is one of my favorite birds, too. I have watched them on web cams, and they are fascination; they do take great care of their young, even in major snow storms! They will be covered but stay on that nest.

Yes I like the WebCams to in fact when I was watching the mom was hit by an airplane and I heard about it on the news and then found out it was the one I?ve been watching the whole season so of course the dad takes off and they had to bring the nest inside to take care of the babies because the dad doesn?t stay if mom doesn?t come back. :(

That is a sad story. There are so many adversities all of our creatures encounter from time to time.

Yes it makes one wonder why our food chain especially for nature is the way it is. I love fish as much as I love the eagle. Thank you for reading and your feedback is appreciated. xoxo

Okay...so I had to go look it up and it wasn't in my dictionary. Thank goodness for the 'google search' box. After I found out what it meant, I felt a lot more sagacious. This is a super posting!!
