Two little fixes Nomi.
"...many people made (make) rash statements like that all the time without thinking about how it sounds or if it even makes sense." I think these little tweaks help the sentence but it is up to you my friend. Another superb offering from your sensitive pen. tom

Thank you. A statement is made all the more effective when it is properly presented. I shall take proper action to rectify these mistakes.

Unbelievable! How can people be so thick? I guess more often than not it's a question of ignorance rather than wickedness, but still...
Thanks so much for sharing.

Thank you for your fine comments.

To be very honest, I thought we were passed all those kinds of racist talk! I can see how it would be offending! It would be like someone telling me that if I left the table I wouldn't be fat anymore!

Exactly. Some people do not realize, I guess that filters are sometime needed to keep us from sounding and looking like complete fools and idiots.

This is very thought-provoking and moving. Thank goodness, the conversation led to Steve realizing the error in his thinking and the mending that then took place.

Thank you, unfortunately, it does not always happen that way. Some may never learn.

True! And the ones who don't think right give a bad name to those who do (stereotyping)! That's unfair, but much in life is not what we consider FAIR ! Have a great day.

Dear heart, you are so generous with your wonderful supportive comments. Of course you are right, and yet someone seems to always come up with unkind comments about who belongs here and who does not. My next post will deal with the subject of what does any of us have that was not given to us..

I so agree with you sweet guy...and your so welcome...I love reading you...God Bless...Linda xxoo

Aww, if I could blush, I surely would.

This is a very relevant topic for today's youth especially, because as our generations continue to blend together with other cultures, the more likely most will have been born in the US. I noticed in your profile, you note having published some books? Do you have a particular publisher or self-publish? I am looking to publish, but I'm not sure where to begin. Any advice would be greatly treasured. xoxo

I like this story because it shows what happens when you disrespect someone by their color. I think that everyone by color should be respected. Nice work!

This is a very powerful commentary, and it's sad to think that, after all this time, the message has to be repeated. Perhaps it wouldn't have needed so much repetition before 2016 but, sadly, current circumstances require that the message be repeated, and you've stated your point very loudly and clearly. Race doesn't determine a person's nationality. Only place of birth does and, if you were born in the US, you are, by definition, an American. I hope enough people read your story and take a lesson from Steve to not judge a book by its cover - or color - but I hope that Steve remembers his own promise if he should ever be faced with a similar situation. That said, I'm sorry that you had to endure something like that yourself.
The only question I have for you is why this is listed under General Poetry and not prose.

Firstly, I thank you for your comments. If you check my portfolio, you will find that 98% of my posts are poetry. I rarely post anything else, so I just automatically posted this as poetry.

No problem. I was just curious. I think I posted my first two stories as poetry before I realized how to change it. About 98% of my posts are poetry too. I've just always loved to write in rhyme.

I've read that it was suggested after the Civil War to send the freed slaves back to Africa, but nothing came of it. I can't believe that this would occur today, when our attention is focused on the migrants coming in through the Southern borders. As poorly as the four women in Congress behave, it was outrageous for the President to say they should go back. Sounds like Steve regrets his remark and will avoid saying something like that again. My issue with this post is that you have it listed as poetry. It's more a narrative and needs to be in paragraphs so we'll be able to tell more clearly who's speaking. judi

My bad, 98% of my post are poems, so without thinking about it I just posted this as poetry. Thank you for your comments.

You're very welcome. It's easy to overlook that detail. I believe the category listing can be changed. judi

WOW! Right on! This is so timely based on what is constantly being rehashed on the Network News today. Unfortunately, I am concerned that all the constant commentary is just desensitizing the public and the message is getting lost.

I agree with you. Go back to where you came from should never have to be heard by anyone, especially not someone born and raised here.
