Mac has some pretty bad memories around alcohol and her grandfather. It is true that abusers make sure the woman have no self-esteem. Individuals say I wouldn't put up with that. That easy to say but the really don't know unless they have been in the situation. It is a never ending cycle, and the abused blames themselves. A wonderful chapter with more insight to Mac. I can relate to Mac and her feelings about alcohol and taking care of herself. Well done.

It is easy for anyone who did not read this story before to understand especially with your back story. Now I have a better understanding of Mackenzie and her moods. She is lucky to have Logan beside her even though they came to know each other not too long ago. I was able to "see" the scenario taking place. Well done
Enjoy your vacation and your granddaughter they grow fast.

Oce more a great chapter with all the ingredients to keep us readers entertained and looking for more of course. Good clarifying the length of Logan and McKenzie's time together. No spags.

This read well. The only suggestion I have would be to break up the dialogue with some environment...maybe sights, sounds and smells of the barbecue. Some gestures instead of words. A lot of information given in this dialogue.

I don't enjoy reading a lot of detail that doesn't move the story along. I know some people do. It's an individual thing. Thank you for the kind review.

You had me ready to turn the Brisket. Yea, I know about those drunk fathers and the mean ones. I see nothing wrong with this but I do seek where it is going. Just wait and see, I suppose. Good one Barb. Don't burn the meat.

Hello Barb
I wish I had a six I could give you. I must say this chapter of your story of how
Helen was battered so badly that she spent almost a month in the hospital. Gus did two years in jail. McKenzie had some nasty bruises but more importantly still carries emotional scars.

Thank you for the kind review. My stories go on forever and reviewers tend to think they've known each other for years. LOL

So Mackenzie has history, her grandfather battered he mother badly, so much so, she wound up in hospital for a month, and battered Mac also. Mac has emotional scars, but they explain her pride, and her desire to protect herself from emotional ties to men, and will probably refuse help, but I think Logan's love for will overcome that. Well done, Barbara, blessings, Roy
Typo : And carries emotional scar(e)s.

Hi Barbara, this is a great chapter albeit it's so sad. The story is unfortunately the story of so many. It's very well written. I only found one small item: McKenzie started toward kitchen. = ... the kitchen.
Enjoy your family visit and your wee granddaughter. My youngest granddaughter is barely 6 months. A hug. Ulla:)))

Great work! The background that Bill fills Logan in on explains a lot about Mac's behavior. It explains her suspicions of people and her intolerance about alcohol. Those two events certainly have had a lasting impact of Mac. Although Mac's in danger, she doesn't want protection from the police or from Logan. Bill is pretty insistent that she needs protection. Nice that Mac has such supportive friends. Excellent development in this chapter, and it tells a lot about Mac. I don't know what group Mary Higgins Clark's novels fall under, but I would put yours in the same category. She always has a strong female character who tries to solve a mystery and is menaced along the way. Romance usually develops in the course of the story, too. judi
