I will tell you a funny story: I was with a tech team. We were almost on the cusp of computer collapse with banking in the late part of 1998 early part of 1999 going into the rollover date for 2000. Several coders had to work day and night, night and day in order to ensure that we preemptively fixed that issue. For the most part, everything seemed good once we got to November of 1999. However, when 9/11/2001 happened, I thought we for sure were headed in that direction. A minor setback in my consciousness.
You know when you are raised around a bunch of bible-thumping people, that need for an audience to be secured, it gets ingrained into your being. The end times. I pray that we all live to our best ability. Our kindest and most helpful souls share at all times regardless if the end is near. I don't want to know if it is or it isn't anymore. I just want to make sure that each day that I live and breathe, I do something worthwhile and help. Thank you for such a fun poem to read so many years later! Very cool!
On a side note: I always enjoy your work and it is always worth a six to me - which I do not have - but you will get my VIRTUAL SIX for this entertaining and thoughtful and provoking work. I love to see anything that would enlighten - and the dispelling of myths. Cheers, Fonda

You do us a service to remind us (and those too young to know of it) how a lot of people went running about like headless chooks at how the sky was going to theoretically fall in because of our inability to cope with the millennium changing. YET... here we are. When do we need to actually take heed, and who should we listen to in our ongoing dramas of modern life???

This is awesome! I wrote one in late 80's about the year 2000. Back then there was the threat of the grand alignment of the planets and the havoc it would create, the droughts expected, and the forecast of 1/3 of our world suffering in famine and poverty. Somehow we survived those awful predictions for the most part - even Y2K :)

hide until... Until what, I never heard. Here we are, almost 20

Yes, how long We'll Be here is anybody's guess, the bible prophesy's are almost fulfilled, so the return of Christ, although perhaps not popular, is upon us. Beautifully written my friend, I enjoyed this sweetly rhymed and super poem, well done, blessings, Roy

I remember the fear of Y2K. I especially rermber my family stocking up on can foods, powder milk, batteries, flashlights and other items. These items cost us a fortune. The stores made all sales final. Yet, I forgot about the people who made this announcement. Where are they today?
We are still here. We will not be fooled ever again. What you have written have keep the memories alive, fear is man made. Fear is a one time event.

, it flows beautifully as I read through it and the punctuation (or purposeful lack of) keeps me at the rhythm that I know the author intended for me. I also pay particular attention to the presentation of it. Since there are usually fewer letters and words than a story or article, I place great importance on the spacing, placement and actual choice of letters and words.

Ah, you never fail to impress me. I remember well the doomsayers just prior to Y-2-K! Computers will fail, our banks will lose our money, we'll go off the electric grid...and if all that were not enough perhaps THIS is REALLY the signal of the beginning of the end of the world. Alas, the "Ball" fell in Times Square and maybe we collectively held our breath...but like so much that is hyped...nothing changed but the date! Great poem reminding us to not fall prey to false prophets!--Karenina

Hello Jay. Your subject of this poem sure had a lot of people squirming around back then. There were actually people building underground shelters and stocking them with food and water.
Now we have to worry about nuclear attacks. I think we will eventually do away with ourselves.

Hello Jaybird, this is a very good poem written about the doom and gloom predicted for the year 2000. None of it transpired LOL. Clever reference to the four horsemen of the Apocalypse bringing Conquest, War, Famine, and Death. Good rhyme and rhythm maintained throughout and a clever piece of writing.
