Hi Rachelle. You really are a masterful story teller. You are able to take anecdotal events and comments and turn them into real stories. I read the story over multiple times because I enjoyed it. I also grew up in a town nearly exactly like the one described. You deserve 6 stars for the story so you got them.

I really love your reviews, Robert, because they're so well-considered and understanding. Every time I read one, I smile and say, "He gets me." (While I find that comforting, that comment should probably SCARE you!!) Anyway, thank you for yet another very encouraging and wonderful review. I appreciate it immensely. xo

I was told by a mentor of mine that the strength of my writing is the economy of words. Since he has several published novels I take for granted he knows what that means. I believe that is why I like your writing. You don't use the same old words all the time to describe similar circumstances. There are a lot of words in your verbal bank account.

Not so much in my Member Dollars account right now, though...

Thanks for this terrific compliment. xo

I struggle with member dollars. That's one of the reasons I don't post more than I do. I will not review stuff I read that I don't like. It puts a strain on my member dollar budget.

Same here. I don't review anywhere near as much as I read.

Rachelle, Woman You are a Boss! Awesome tale. Eloquently expressed! I so enjoyed reading this! I haven't been awarded enough 6 star ratings to cover you! I don't have one available now and this is so deserving of one. It was charming, engaging and a great joy! I read it aloud to my Mom and she enjoyed it too! Thank You for sharing this! I truly believe that you have the makings of a must see Sunday night television series here. Narrated by you recounting stories about the town and your lessons learned as a piano teacher! Quality Family Programming is so hard to come by. This would indeed be a bright light on the television landscape! Superbly Sublime!

Presering Connections"? Surely you mean preserving. This is excellent and sure to score big points in the true story contest. Isn't it wonderful when something spontaneous, like this former teacher's off-the-cuff presentation in which he demonstrated an amazing memory of the names of and stories about all those present at the high school reunion. I enjoyed your details about the town's history and the class clown master of ceremonies who had been working so hard on his act. How funny that he got the date wrong and no one thought to remind him because of his father's illness. Fate intervened! Even though were not a graduate of the high school, you were as entranced by the high school teacher's reminiscences as if you had been. Beautiful story. judi

I've fixed the title on my edit screen, but it hasn't 'taken' on the main wall yet. Oy.

Anyway, thank you for this really nice review, Judi. You're right --I was transfixed by that man's mind (he was in his 80's then!) and how special he made that night for everyone in attendance. We spouses-of-classmates were spellbound, too, to hear him share little vignettes about our loved ones. Such a memorable night.

You're very welcome. In his eighties--that was really quite a feat, then. judi

He's still going strong, too! Simply remarkable man! I run into him at the grocery store, and he greets me, "Oh hey! How's Bobby's doing these days? Spending a lot of time at the tax office, I bet. And how are all those piano students of yours doing?" And he's like this with EVERYONE!!

It's amazing that he's still going so strong! Would be great if whatever he has could be bottled up and passed on to others. judi

That was a special, unique gift from that eloquent teacher, Rachelle. You are right. His speech will be remembered by all present forever. What a legacy. Thank you for sharing it. What a super way it turned out that the original speaker was absent. Your retelling this makes readers feel as if they are there with you. Thanks for sharing. Jan

in title--perhaps you meant preserving not presering

Good luck in the contest. Sound like the teacher was a Mr. Chips or Mrs. Minever that could remember and recite all. That I am sure impressed all attendees more than the scheduled host would have.

This was a wonderful story. It reminds me a lot of our small town. Like East Rochester, people are related by blood ties some distant, but no less important for that.

Best of luck in the contest with this touching write

This is a wonderful entry, Rachel! Your execution of the descriptive passages was as electrifying as the twinkle lights set off in the room that night :). I thoroughly enjoyed this and can easily see why that night became one of those very special memories in your life. Good luck in the judging and thank you very much for sharing it.

Great story, Rachelle.
It's obvious that teacher really cared and that's why he remembered so much about his ex-students.
Just one thing: have you noticed the weird a at the end of your text?
Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest.
