I don't have faith that the things the dollar stores sell are always going to go for a dollar. We have a new Dollar Tree near us, and I haven't been in to see if it lives up to its name. Anyhow, I wouldn't have had an expectation that everything would be a dollar. Maybe I'm just cynical. You turn this into a such a humorous incident with your description of the clerk. Very engaging. judi

We have stores here called "Dollar General," too. They charge anywhere from $1 to $5 for their products, but at the The Dollar Store, each item is just a dollar. I shop there often for prizes for students who have completed books or learned how to read music, so I'm able to trust, from experience, that each item IS just that much.

I'm glad you enjoyed the absurdity of it all. Thanks for the terrific review. xo

I can see how the Dollar Store would be a great resource for you. We have to many different "dollar stores" here I don't know how they survive. judi

I'm thinking it's because they probably make 95 percent profit on every item.

    That much profit? Amazing. judi

They're made in places like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, so I don't think there's a lot that goes into labor costs. And, judging by how long the products last, I don't think they're paying a lot for quality, either!!

The one that rhymes with rich...which I wish I would have been, so that I could have avoided the Dollar Store! Oy.

Wonderful review, Debra. Thank you. xo

I'm crying over here!!! Who'd have thunk there'd be a dang item that was a 2-fer in an "everything's a dollar" store!!!! And you thought she was the dummy! Blahaha!!

But why she had to get so hostile about it just slayed me! Geez! I mean, a little compassion for your poor stupid customer would go a long way!!

Enjoyed this little vignette of life. I love that you see the humor in every day events and wish more people would take a breath and pause to observe life's little absurdities. Bravo to you for channeling them into stories.

I've written one each day into my Fly on the Wall journal for, literally, decades now. So I think knowing I need to have something to write about every day makes me more aware and watchful to what could be fodder for that day's entry.

Thank you for this very fun and encouraging review. xo

I love this Rachelle. You are great at turning your life into writing material. I usually write fiction because I think my life is not exciting enough and I resort to my imagination, but your sense of humor transforms any situation into something exciting.
Thanks for sharing.

You did well in holding your tongue. I would have found it almost impossible. While frustrating stupid, these situations give us a good laugh later. That's something in their favor. lol

Yes. That clerk definitely provided one of those "never like a good deed go unpunished" moments for me, the little wench! Oy! But as you said, in time, it did become hilarious.

Thanks for the validating review, damommy! xo

Hey Rachelle. That is a hilarious story. In life, do you ever get the feeling that you're the only one that doesn't have it figured out? With these kind of responses I might think what did I miss? I used to think it was a conspiracy. Now I think it's normal and people like you and me are the ones that are.wrong. I'm not pessimistic, just realistic. Robert

Oh, I definitely agree! Because when she first held up my item, I looked at the woman in line behind me, and she wasn't the teeniest bit fazed by it. She didn't think the question was even marginally odd. That's when I began looking for the Candid Camera crew.

Thank you for this very validating review, Robert. xo

I love the $ store. You probably guessed that already.

I don't think I could be friends with someone who didn't like the $ store!! I go in there frequently because I keep a stash in my trunk of "prizes" I award to students for when they finish books or learn to read music or when they've done well with that week's Music Theory Game. So I'm a frequent shopper to that place. Some days it's more enjoyable there than others...

Oh how real. Not like when I went into a Family Store and asked to buy a family - LOL. Since I am new to FS, please help me out, is this really a chapter in a book you are writing? Is it in a contest?

This is a chapter book I've been doing for a few months now. It's on my portfolio under Fly on the Wall Journal. Like Lessons in the Key of Life, my other book, I post a chapter a week. These are not for contests.

Haha, a fun poem entry. It can be annoying though, maybe the sign should say everything is between 1 - 2 dollars, would make things easier perhaps! Great little story
