You are having a good time bringing back the sixties with its ups and downs.
Little things: Would Cathy notice the price of gas, or would Gramps say it's gone up or down? Or does she notice because she is worried about $$?
Some of the dialogue sounds like real people talking. Some sounds stilted. We often talk more simply, without explaining and then expand if someone asks for detail. We don't speak like we write, unless we are being extremely careful. Billy's story is a young person's story - and an exciting one - but are the words magnificent? Perhaps let the reader know this is Cathy's opinion.
The stories of this era are important and this chapter is a glimpse into that time - of the war that many people have forgotten. Glad you are working on this!

Your suggestion about the gas mention was a good one, and it has been expounded on a bit. As for the others, Cathy does express some thoughts about Bill's childhood writing. We feel that is enough. Also, yes, they do all talk that way! Again, though, we thank you for the suggestions and hope you continue to follow along. Chapter 8 is already in the works and coming soon.

This is just a beautifully written story. It draws the reader deep into the heart of each character and holds then utterly captive from start to finish. The addition of the prose and poetic writing throughout is probably the one of the most innovative ways I have seen to develop characters into something more than simple descriptive phrases - it makes them come to life. very well written. good character development. I love Grandpa. The events flow smoothly and I felt very connected to the characters.You have us good descriptive details. there is also good connection betweneent the characters and the events in the story.
