Well, that was an unexpected twist at the end! Here was I, sure that the reason for Burch's unkempt appearance was long, long weeks of travel and maybe being mugged in the process. But instead, it is the new Preacher, who must've been on the road anyway for a fair while, so I was half right lol! I really enjoyed this poem; it bounced along and kept my attention from start to finish. I did notice this little nit, though:

Nice twist at the end, did not see that coming. Your rhymes were tight, the poem made sense, and entertained me. This one was right over the plate for me, I wish I'd wrote it.

Dear Willie, YOu certainly took me by surprise at the end of this poem. We never know who we're looking at or what is under their "cover." I thought this poem would be about a horse, the crucifix confused me, until I read the end of the poem. Cleo85 has given me a lot of good pictures too. Dove

Yep, he fooled them. Or maybe not. With him around they might not want to miss church. I've met a few preachers I wouldn't want to piss off. This could be one of them.
