Hi Willie,
I enjoy a surprise ending. Here I thought he was a bounty hunter, looking for information. Weary of a long trail ride, all he wanted was a drink of water and directions to the church. He was the new preacher.
The local Wesleyan minister is like that. You can't judge a book by its cover. He rides a motorcycle, and hangs out at a coffee shop. But all the while, he spreads the Word to those who need to hear it. It's quite possibly what Jesus would do if He visited earth today. He'd be talking to the people at Tim Horton's or Starbucks. And look at His disciples.... some were fishermen. Yet they wrote parts of the Bible! It reminds me of a song by Larry Norman so many years ago. It's called "The Outlaw". I hope you'll have a listen, goes right along with your poem.

A very well-written poem about judging a person by his appearances can be very dangerous. A preacher who had a rough journey can look like a murderer or a thief. Strangers are usually judged before they say word.

Very well done. I love the surprise ending. The rhyme and rhythm were perfect for your piece. The image of the cross with the cowboy worked well. Thank you for sharing. ~Brenda

That would certainly be a surprise, but with the heroes of the cross they have been anything from the tiny, Iconic Mother Teresa, to St. Francis, Doctor Livingstone to the film star like Billy Graham, a not together with your great work, blessings, Roy
Typo : was (anybodies) guess. Anybody's?

Boy, does this set a stage for an interesting scene. Here the townfolk were convinced they had a real hired assassin, or worse, and it turned out it was the preacher, even though he gave them a clue by ordering water instead of liquor. Nice share.

"Burch", is an exceptionally well-written and spiritually-uplifting piece. With craft and well-honed skill this talented poet has told it as it is. To me, this is a six, but sadly I've run out of them. I look forward to seeing your next post.

Interesting theme. I like the description of this guy, rugged and then we find out he is not a killer. Witty and a good image to go with it. Thanks for sharing.

This is a great example of what your notes say about not judging a book by its cover. Your words crate great imagery. I could see this cowboy as he sauntered up to the bar with all eyes on him. The ending is great. He proved them all wrong. Your lines flow smoothly with good rhymes and great imagery. The art pairs perfectly with your well thought out story in a poem.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan
