Oh wow you are so right, no one knows the underlying feelings of one posting fun, no one knows the hurt or pain of one posting happy, nor do most really care. Nicely stated

Thank you, Barb, for a telling review of what is really happening on social media. The fact that most of those on Facebook don't care makes it all the sadder. Thank you for your kind comments. Have a nice weekend.

It's true that "friends" on facebook can't know the inner workings of your soul - however, I like hearing from a friend who needs prayer - or their daughter is sick - a son needs a job. These are matters I can pray about.
Good poem to make us think.

Thank you, Gail, for your perspective of facebook. Yes, I agree, there are plenty of good things to be had with social media. It's just that some people hide behind the online experience and feel isolated, the same time that they have 'friends'. Thank you for your worthy comments, and for reading and reviewing my poem. Enjoy your upcoming weekend.

A very sad but true commentary of what our world has become. We are out of touch. We don't hear the phone ring anymore - we simply text silently with our fingertips. We don't feel the pages of a book anymore. We just read on a kindle. We don't see a person smile anymore - just their picture posted on social media (usually enhanced). We don't smell the flowers anymore - we're never outside. And we don't taste tears anymore - because we have ceased to care. We just post sad emoji faces and move on. Once in a great while, we may see a homeless person and shake our heads...thanks for reminding us to be human again.

Hi Jesse
Wow. This is a very powerful poem! Yes, this is certainly something to think about...

I loved the lines "they barely scratch the surface," and "too busy posting, nobody takes the time to read between the lines." Also, the final lines "There's no social media on the streets, when all your belongings are bound in sheets" paints a very strong and tragic image of a young woman in horrible dire circumstances while her "transparent friends" "ghost" her into oblivion.

Well done.

Susan

A very well-written poem about the friends we have on social media are often strangers that we may never met and they all have their own empire to build on Facebook, when one disappear it meanseems that one's friends can like us now.

    Hi Sandra
Well. You wrote the longest single sentence I have had privy to read. Thank you for your kind comments. I see that everyone has their own 'take' on what comprises Facebook. Thank you for your insights. Enjoy your weekend.

Wow, this is raw and real. I know many who lose themselves in social media every day, thinking they have real relationships. It is sad. It like passing a stranger on the street and thinking you know every thing about them in a micro second. Well penned and illustrated Jesse.
Sending you my best today as always,
Sally

What you say here so adeptly is very true. So many on social media hide their pain and problems and keep up a facade, 'cheerfully posting their anecdotes', that is nowhere near the truth. Thanks for sharing

    Hi Judy
I am happy you get the gist of my poem so well. I like how you use the word 'facade' 'that is nowhere near the truth'. Thank you for your kind comments. Have a great weekend.

Oh my goodness Jesse you hit a chord here with your words and I only have one six left and I will have to give it to you for this write. This fake world of posting on facebook and showing the world you're have a wonderful life when the reality is the exact opposite, it is crazy and I'm glad I am not involved in it, your words drive home the point in a gentle and subtle way with such care in every word here, a great poem, love Dolly x

Thank you, Dolly. I am honored to receive your last sixth star for this poem, which struck a chord with you. I, too, am glad I am not involved with it. I tried Facebook for a few weeks and didn't like the phoniness I sensed from the participants. I appreciate how you view my way of writing this as 'gentle' and 'subtle' with care in every word. Thank you so much for your insights and kindness in your review of my work. Your gift of the sixth star has made my day special. Enjoy your upcoming weekend.

This is so very true and intensely profound regarding today's social media and the impact it has on society, both for young and the older generation that has been caught up in the wave of madness. Yes, I said madness! You have poetically laid out the definition of what a cyber "friendship" entails in most cases and it is well written. I would not alter or change one thing about this piece. Great job and very well said!

Thank you, Wendy. Your analysis of this poem is Right On! I am so glad you found this 'profound', and describe social media, as 'madness'. Your kind words are very appreciated. I love how you get the gist of my piece. Thank you, and have a nice weekend.

Good morning Jesse. That was some really good stuff. Deep and sad but very good and the title was perfect. People get caught up in this "social" media, when it is the exact opposite of social. I could go on ranting forever about it, but I will leave it at that. Good title, good topic, good writing. Thanks for sharing.

anybody ever tell you that you look like James Lipton?

Thank you, and good morning to you, as well. I love your 'take' on my poem, with the great example of you saying that social media is the opposite of social. Well said. I am glad this spoke to you, and you liked the title, especially. Have a good weekend. And, no, I have never heard before that I look like James Lipton.
