A very well-written Cinquain about someone usually confused of who they are because of influences around them that they thought they will fit in better with another group. It is a decision that only the person self can make.

This is a very serious and deep poem. There are millions or more going through a unnecessary hell.
The photo shows the loneliness uncertainty of his or her life.
A lot of things have change but like segregation not enough
thank you for this much needed poem, maybe it will help and open others eyes.

I'd guessed before reading your note that it was about a transgender, and I think it is a very interesting (and important) subject you've handled well in this short poem. I especially liked the parallelism/opposition between the first and last line, good job! It is a subtle and impactful poem. Best wishes

This must be a challenge in life and I have seen programs about it and some are very successful at changing their gender and others struggle, in the end we all have the right to be who we feel we are, I enjoyed your Cinquain, love Dolly x

It truly is a strange new world, isn't it? I don't know where these feelings were stuffed when I was a child... Maybe a girl would be called a tomboy...but there was no talk (or imagination) to introduce the concept of her becoming an actual boy! Nor the reverse! A tough subject to capture in a cinquain...so thank you for your author's notes. Now there is this whole "gender continuum" thing being written about... It's mind boggling.---Karenina

A very interesting and imaginative poem. You had me wondering until the last line. The photograph does a lot to enhance the meaning of your poem. Very well done.

I think you've done a terrific job with your cinquain entry, kahpot. The transformation from boy to girl done so subtly and with such grace it's barely detectible other than the smile.

Wishing you great good luck with the Contest Committee. :)

Very powerful message delivered succinctly and clearly. So many people simply don't understand the challenges faced by the transgendered population. I commend you for this work.

I can't imagine how difficult it would be to go through that. In a few words, you were able to express the emotional turmoil and ultimate triumph over accepting yourself for who you are. Thats the most important thing. Thanks for sharing.

This is wonderful. Timely, effective, honest, loving and gentle. Your words are well chosen poetically with a wonderful photograph to accompany. In my world, we have experienced this with my stepson, now a stepdaughter. Acceptance happens when love is prevalent. Understanding comes when one realizes there are SO many things that could be worse. The hardest part is using the correct pronoun! :) You did a great job with this piece. Good Luck!
