Your minute poem was extended somewhat here. The sentiments of learning is a hard task for these little ones at first and then they are let loose on all those books! I struggles with the line: 'there's ball, there's prince". Love Dolly x

It's such a wonderful time for children as they learn to read and write, and to treasure words. They do feel that "the world is mine" as they discover the joys of reading. It's so nice when Mom reads to the child, so they share the time together. Excellent work with the minute form, and you certainly show the impact of words on youngsters. Best of luck in the contest. judi

You're very welcome. It makes a lasting impact when children are exposed to reading early on. They're likely to be life-long readers. judi

Not sure if this is Blind, but this is lovely and so well worked out, and as I have had my 10 and five year old granddaughters this weekend, even more special. Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest.
Kind regards Colin

This is a cute little poem. Love the perspective from a little girls POV. It takes me back to when I was a little girl and how I couldn't wait for story time. It's well-written, very interesting good luck with your contest.

This is a charming poem. It beautifully captures the wonder and joy when a child sees how letters make words, have sound and form. I remember it - the excitement of reading something as basic as 'Oh look,' 'See funny Sally,' etc. You were reading! I just read another entry, completely different around this topic. The power of words to affect us, from learning what a word is to delivering a message with emotional content - it's profound!

Ahhh, the beautiful blossoming of a learner/experimenter to a Real Reader!! Such a heartwarming time of life. When you were talking about making letters, it made me think of one of my piano students when she was five. She said, "I like making A's. I star with a U and then give it puffy hair." Isn't that darling?! Anyway, as perfect as this entry is, for me, the vintage-looking photo is the perfect cherry on top. Good luck to you in the contest. xo

I enjoyed your contest entry, Melissa. You did a good job with the prompt. Your lines of this minute poem flow smoothly with great imagery. I like the idea of learning this ABC;s to provide a foundation for life-long learning of reading. Your picture is a great pairing. Good job and best wishes. Jan

A captivating angle on the IT'S ONLY WORDS challenge - as the world opens up to the little children through the power of words and such a cute pic to illustrate

This is still my view--the world is mime at reading time. Sweet poem and colorful artwork, too. I enjoyed this very much, dear Melissa.

While this takes a totally different approach to the required topic of how words impact people, I can see where you are coming from and think it quite clever. The general thread of how each word inspired the child running throughout certainly services the requirements and makes it stand out a bit from the pack. The rhyme and meter are solid and fluid. Good luck in the voting and thank you very much for sharing it.
