This little gem put a smile on my face! I know a fellow who has to ever--so--carefully pick and choose his words, as his line of work requires never being blunt. It's an interesting choice for the subject of
'only words", and the first humor piece I've read in that contest.

I wish you best of luck in this contest!

Thanks Brenda. I really like this view...though I have to say, I feel very sorry for that fellow you know! Ugh. I would NOT want that life. xo

You fulfilled the contest requirements and I hope you do well in the contest. However, I am uncomfortable with your message. Over the course of a career that has included The military, Government and Private Industry, I have had the privilege of working with many highly ethical straight shooters. (Again, sorry for the lecture, I really liked your poem.)

No, it's fine. I have worked with many a straight shooter, as well. But, this friend's husband is in the used car industry. They're a rarer commodity there. Not TOTALLY non-existent, mind you, just rarer! I always want YOU to be a straight shooter, too. I like that we're off to such a good start that way. I respect it a lot. Thank you for respecting me enough to say the truth, too. xo

Yes - you are right and I am not naïve - I know there are many rotten apples. But, I prefer to dwell on the positive.

This poem speaks loud to the silver tongues in Washington D.C. However, not all business minded people agree with this write. I find no fault. Thanks for sharing.

Hey, what a clever little piece you have crafted for this particular contest entry. I found it fun, honest and demanding. I myself am quite forward. Some folks don't care much for it, because it's real. Real, is better I say.
God bless
Steve

I totally agree, Steve. I would always prefer someone who's honest than someone who's "polite for my own good." Please. I'm a big grown-up girl, not spun sugar. I guarantee I won't fall apart if you tell me what's what.

Anyway, thank you very much for the terrific review. I love it. xo

This is such a clever entry for this contest. You know how to get so specific. And with the language you chose - baloney, phony, kowtow, snarky, bogus, schmooze - you illustrated the "punch" certain words have.
The rhyme is very skillful and kept the tone light.

I'm not very good at beating around the bush, either, but I think I have the art mastered better than some in my family. It's a continuum, isn't it? I've noticed that seldom does one straight-talker end up with another straight- talker, perhaps because they'd kill each other? Seems one is always the designated dancer-around-the-point. Clever poem! I enjoyed it!

Perfect offering! :) There, that's my review for this one, Beautiful Friend! :) The only thing I would add is that I wish more people were like your friend: I'm convinced there are too many that live as her husband ... and so no one knows how to handle a little negativity once in a while: if you can't be honest and real with your friends, is there really anybody you can? ;) ;) Thanx for sharing and best of luck at the polls! ;) ;) Yvette

I am SOO with you on that, Yvette, though certainly no surprise there!! All my friends are like you and her --honest and upfront. I'll take that ANY day over "oh-so polite." I'm not a delicate flower. I can take whatever anyone has to tell me. And like you said, if you can't be honest with your FRIENDS, then who else is left?!

Thanks for the terrific review. xo

A very interesting poem that I'm sure will do well in the contest!
I especially liked the line "Why must you kowtow?" my friend asks her mate. The use of words is very well expressed and used!

You did a great job with the prompt, Rachelle. Your words flow smoothly and make valid points. I agree that the way one speaks in the corporate world I different than speaking in the everyday world. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Jan

Hi Rachelle,

This poem made me think of my younger days when somebody explained to me that the business world is different. You will be asked all day long how are you doing. Just nod and say fine. They don't really want to know. It's all just about collecting that pay cheqye.

Best wishes in this contest.

Joy xx
