In business it is all about the customer and making sure they are satisfied! We pander to their whims and tell them that the dress looks good on them despite their bum looking big it it in order to sell the dress! He he he, a poignant write Rachelle, love Dolly x

Hi Rachell. After 40 years of managing people, I will say, "No truer words..." What a great piece. I always believed in informing my employees in "unvarnished, 'unsofter' tones." Well done!

I would have loved a boss like you! Give me brutal honesty ANY day!! Thanks for the really nice review. xo
-
I have actually thought of fictionalizing some of my work experiences and turning them into short stories.
-
I didn't even bother fictionalizing mine! So far, Lessons in the Key of Life has resonated. Definitely send up a couple test balloons! I, for one, would love to read them! With your sense of timing and humor, I bet they would be so fun to read!! xo

When a friend of mine doesn't want to say what he really thinks about something. he says that's interesting. It covers all possible meanings and gets him off the hook. This is very good. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks for the review, Thomas. It's interesting.
HAAAA! Just playin' with you there. : )
'Interesting' is always synonymous with 'distaste.' It's kind of like the quintessential passive aggressive comment. But if it's working for your friend, more power to him!!
Thank you for the nice review and the well-wishes in the contest, Thomas. xo

One woman's blunt is another woman's rude.
Words are super important. They start and prevent wars. They change the course of history. And they connect us as human beings.
They can embarrass. The young son of a friend yelled in an airport waiting area, "MOM! Your butt has a crack!" She never wore those jeans again. :-))
So, alas, we can't always say, or write, exactly what we think. Because there are consequences.
Good luck in this fun contest.
Blessings Julia

You are waxing mighty deep and philosophic today, Julia!! Myself, I solve the problem by saying the polite thing by day and then, before going to bed, entering whatever I please into my journal entitled "What I'd Say If There Were No Repercussions." Very therapeutic. xo

LOL I work in a multicultural environment. In the Caribbean we make what are called "rough jokes" in friendly conversation. It's taken as a sign of deep affection to insult one's
friends. "Hi stinky" we call lovingly to a perfectly coiffed woman, lightly fragrances with Door, " didn't you have time to shower today?" This is not a habit that thrives outside our Calypso culture. LOLOL

Definitely not here in the oh-so politically correct US of A!! In fact, such comments would get you a reprimand and possibly even fired! (Your workplace way is so much more fun and congenial!)

I think we caught the virus from our British colonizers. Didn't take in the US.:-))

I think you're right! xo

A very delightful exchange portrayed in your poem about words. You managed to create a poem that is enjoyable reading while at the same time telling a story about how some people feel about the use of their words. Great job.
It should be pointed out, however, that not all businessmen hold their true feelings back,

Right. I figured that was obvious enough to leave out of the Author's Notes.
Thanks for the lovely review.

This speaks the truth in true perspective, simply and in a nice diction; a businessman speaks for business only, the reality for money or profit, his words are business, and he talks to schmooze; well said, well done. Liked and enjoyed the read. Write-Inspire --DR ALCREATOR

We all make our way according to our circumstances.
Even the most honest person sometimes speaks in code.
Like you, I'm not fond of double-talk, but I'll employ it when
the alternative is even less desirable.
Sharp rhymes and near-rhymes.
Best of luck.
Peace, Lee

I enjoyed your poem. I think I'm more like your friend, I don't care for the bs. Your rhymes and flow were good and I found it to be very relatable and true to life. Good job.

An interesting discussion between hubby and his all-too-blunt mate. I wonder how many businessmen "kow-tow" like him in order to do business. I must admit I usually hold my tongue just to preserve the peace. I call it being "diplomatic." Good use of ABCB rhyming. Rod

LOL! What a great ending, Rachel! This meets the contest requirements beautifully with a clear theme of words and how their use impacts others. My personal favorite from my business days was, "Help me understand" ... when you really meant how dumb are you?! Good luck in the voting and thank you very much for sharing it.

Ohhh yes! Or how about, "Now I can't believe you'd pass up an offer THIS good!" [business speak for "Please be as foolish as I hope you are."]
