This sound like a very interesting place to see, In fact, you've got the starts of an article for a travel magazine (if you were inclined to write one). Only thing I would change is its listing--it's general non-fiction, not fiction.

You're the second one to mention a travel magazine to me, maybe Ishould look into it. I write for a newspaper in my spare time and i have written travel article, not this one it's new. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review my work.

Hi Earl. I really enjoyed reading this great essay. Well written, clear, and interesting. More visitors than the Liberty Bell is pretty impressive.

When I lived in Tennessee there was a lake like this with carp so dense it was rather eerie to look at. TN has many WPA projects which have benefited the state, then and now. Marilyn

The TVA was a WPA project if I remember correctly. Thank you very much for the six star rating Marilyn. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review my work.

This sounds like a place any tourist would want to visit, I particularly like your reference to the caveman TV. The WPA and the CCC to of the best programs the country ever funded.

Well-written entry. I'm from Western Pennsylvania, and our family used to vacation at Spillway Lake. I don't think it's the same place, but the word "Spillway" in your entry brought back memories.

I lived in a small town called Belle Vernon, near Charleroi and Monesson, about 30 miles south of Pittsburgh.

Hi Earl. I was captivated by the title of ducks walking on fish. I not only didn't know where the park was, I didn't even know the park is. It sounds like a remarkable place to visit if for no other reason to watch the ducks fight with carp over bread. Z

You have described the park in different seasons to give a foretaste of what one might expect to see. There's enough here to tempt the most jaded of tourists. Interesting historical background, too.

The title is a great hook. The Texas of... signifies that this is not your neighbourhood puddle. You give us needed information at the top, and the liberty bell comparison draws us in even more. The history bits, recognition and setbacks, make us feel more connected to the park. The alternating of facts and visuals give a relaxing and enjoyable read.
The only slightly weak sentence I find in the whole thing is the second sentence 4th paragraph from the end. 'There are' and 'from doing' do not enhance or fit in with strength of the paragraph. Perhaps 'Ice, snow and cold ...plenty of pursuits.
I find myself puzzled by the en dash in the last sentence and wonder if a colon would have served you better, then you wouldn't have had to cap. But - that last phrase would have stood out on its own merit. Just a bit of a hiccup.
I really enjoyed this article and it took rereading with a huge magnifying glass to find these minor weaknesses.

I'd love to see that! I can imagine those ducks trying to get the bread before the fish do. You make it sound like a truly beautiful place. Good luck in the contest.

Dear Earl,
Your opening paragraph is fantastic and acts a really strong lead into your story/essay. Everything you wrote was done so with the right amount of details and descriptions. I appreciate you writing and posting about what sounds like a beautiful place, unknown to me. The ducks must be adorable. Thank you for writing this and for posting. Good luck in the contest.
