Trust you to find a picture and the words for mass appeal to the populist vote in this contest!! A worthy winner over some drivel, where you combine the flag, loyalty, a serviceman, sacrifice, man's best friend, death, a man showing emotion, and even a touch of greek mythology.

Lol, yep, that's how you have to do it for these contests. Haha. Thank you for the great review, Lisa.

What a poignant poem, Mystery Author. The picture say is all. However, your words make readers understand the connection a soldier has for his dog. Thanks for sharing and caring. Best wishes. Jan

Ciao mystery poet . I gave you your 3 rd vote.
There are fun, eye rolling entries and then there is your entry that for me stood out from the crowd.
Zeus died in the line off duty , saving many lives , no doubt.
I hope he didn't suffer and death came quick.
I like to think of him now happily playing with other dogs in a peaceful place without gunfire, explosions and death.
I'm wondering if there is a memorial wall also for these fallen canine heroes? There should be.

He might have been a dog, but he was a soldier first! RIP
this poem has integrity. The picture says more than any words I could say. How many could say they gave their life for their best friend?

If I owned a valuable Persian rug, I could not be as unforgiving as you if my cat puked on it. But since I don't own either, I will accept what this Speaker tells me. Rod

I'd never pay that much hard earned money for a rug. No way. Lol. Thank you for the review and generous stars, Rod. I'm just goofing around with the dumb prompt. Have a great day.

This meets the contest requirements nicely with correct line and syllable count and beloved animal theme. I'm glad to hear a little throw-up doesn't diminish your love. Good luck in the voting and thank you very much for sharing it.
