I love this vignette from a (I think?) a patriotic celebration. At first I thought it was a veteran returning home, then I realized it was an immigrant. Well done and good luck!

Thanks for the review. Many refugees find a new life in Canada and America. Their happiness and appreciation is a joy to see.
I just returned to Canada from Africa. The other day I was walking around Montreal and realized how lucky we are. Plenty of fresh food in the stores, clean and efficient transportation, and a compassionate health system. We are blessed and these immigrants and refugees share the freedom of a peaceful environment. Cheers.

Your story is so very touching and beautifully written... nuanced so well to show how new immigrants are grateful to be free at last and just like anyone else when it comes to enjoyment, family fun, togetherness and celebration. I live in a NZ city where we have quite a few Syrian settlers and they make an excellent contribution to our accepting diversity.

Cheers, I am Canadian and I hear so many heartwarming stories of refugees that find their way here. Their enthusiasm is energy and their happiness a joy...for everyone. Thanks for your insightful and compassionate review. Cheers,

Very nice beginning. It is warm, engaging and pleasant to read. This would be a good start to a series of articles or stories. If you have not already done so you might consider going further with this. It looks something that could be great family entertainment. Keep writing. Good solid work.

I can easily relate to what has been a traditional way of celebrating the Fourth of July, especially in smaller communities or old city neighborhoods. But I get confused as to where the YOUNG FATHER suddenly comes in as your attention up till now was on GRANDFATHER.
