Lovely free verse Yvonne about your little box of memories. I particularly enjoyed the ring from the gumball machine. Things mum's do and hold precious are those moments.
cheers,
valda

Very nicely composed indeed. It only goes to show you how much moms treasure gifts from their little kids (other treasures, too, of course) and we hate to part with them. Well written free verse. Marilyn

You did a great job with your free verse about a box, Yvonne. Your words are descriptive. I could 'see' each item you described in the treasured box. Readers can feel you love for each, too. I like the formatting, the touches of alliteration such as with 'b', and the comparison of the faded color like a dying rose. Thank you for sharing a beautiful memory. Jan

Such a lovely free verse offering, Yvonne! ;) And don't we all have that special box that holds some of the craziest items that are dear to us?! :) ;) My mom was moving a few years back and found a box of my stuff from when I lived at home (teenager! Egads, that was forever ago!) and in it was my old 'jewelry' box with just these kinds of mementos...you know, every item sparked a real memory, even after all these years!! ;) ;) Thanx for sharing! ;) Yvette

I know what you mean. I keep things I no longer have any use for, just because of the memory. Thank you.

Aw this is really nice, Yvonne. I am especially fond of the ring from the gumball machine. Those are fascinating to the young and old among us.

A lovely response to the Free Verse Club.

This is beautiful. It's interesting the things that we hold on to. The ring from the gumball machine is a great one, for the sentimental reason that your son thought it was beautiful. Excellent examples of those precious keepsakes and all the memories they evoke. The contents of this box represent memories of those you love and hold dear. Great work, and the feeling really comes across in this free verse. judi

This is a piece that so many can relate to. Who doesn't have a little wooden box holding treasures that have meaning and value for only ourselves? An old barrette my daughter wore in first grade for the class picture. The pin she bought me with her allowance that is missing a few stones. Bits and pieces of our lives. Great entry for the contest!

This free-verse poem says a lot in creative language
(The Little Wooden Box has a "velvety cushion for sentimental ring.

In several ways I can identify withis box, often as a catch all for objects I don't want to toss or trash.

Moreso with literature, I treasure as archive material, which lies dormant, waiting future use only unfrequently fits just the proper category or slot for my essays or longer writing. News print, unlike slicks magazine pages, fades into a dingy tatter after months. A surprising treasure is not the material worth but the relevance to truth challenged and denied by politicians and other vested interests.

Eventually, carefully archived papers accumulate until a house cleaning, head for the recycling bin, or worse fate. A Little Wooden Box, or other container, waits for better fate in a bibliography for a valued essay.

This lovely poem is very well-written and moving, nostalgia and sentimentality at their best. Mementos like these are so important-
and irreplaceable.

As I was checking out at the grocery store, the clerk asked if plastic bags were alright. I said do you have any wooden boxes. She wasn't amused.

I guess not. It's hard to get a paper sack any more. You were pushing the limits there. lol
