Truly a simplistic but lovely story. Wanting to go back in time is something many of us wish for, yet I often think about what I have learned from the people I have lost. They are still a part of me. Thank you for your heartfelt words.

I simply want to stand up and applaud this one. Perfection of rhythm and I can almost hear it being read. I love the way you simply lay down a poem as you probably write 99.9 % about REAL life things and there is no guessing to the meaning. I LIKE some mystery in poetry sometimes, but I also like the reality of beauty in real life sometimes and you are the master at writing that type piece. Great job!

This is beautiful. I am a romantic and I always enjoy love stories.
It is great to find true love (not everybody is that lucky), even though it hurts more when we lose that person.
Thanks so much for sharing.

Hello JayBird,
Once again you have penned an offering that is filled with emotion and longing. Beautiful images that speak of a love long ago, but a love for which you still yearn.
Melodic and keen visual images.

Thank you for sharing!

Sweet love poem.

In line 4, consider adding a comma after "lass." Otherwise, "twas" seems to refer to the lass, and she is not an "it."

"'till death did call and I was spared" -- neat understated way to express the loss!

Beautiful story, nice rhyme, and inducing of lovely images of young lovers growing and sharing life. I met mine on the steps of a New York brownstone, but feeling was much the same. Great writing.

If this isn't a contest entry it should be. Im sorry I don't have a six star rating left to give you because this poem would have earned it. Very nice job.

Hello Jaybird
This is a wonderful narration of how you found your life's partner, but life goes on and we have to someday face our maker. Understand the regrets, but that is life. Beautiful imagery and crafted well.

Hello Jay: Now, this is what I call a true country romance. From the time you waded cedar creek and touched her hand, things were set for life.

This is one of my favorite kinds of poetry, finding and courting the love of your life in the country. There should be a movie made about this one...Bill

I absolutely love this poem. It flows so sweetly, like that creek where you met the love of your life! Also, I love rhyming couplets, and yours are superb. Aren't you glad God blessed us with memory?
