This has promise, and you have ambition:-) 500 words a month + all your other postings. You set a high bar Y.M., and you have a mean sense of humor " sever his package..." Ow! This is a nice read Good luck.

Glad you enjoyed this one, sir -- I'm putting this in as my personal challenge for the year: a chapter in ONLY 500 words will be a lofty goal (lol!) as I tend to forget about the word count about the first moment the words begin to flow across the screen from my keyboard! ;) ;) Hope you check back in on Nicholas next month! ;) :) Take care and thanx for the review! ;) Yvette

At first, I thought young Nicholas young for the job of groundskeeper for an estate, but then I saw his chutzpah and thought better, I am sure that Sir Philippe did likewise. The reference to the severed to package sealed the deal for me and I think Sir Philippe. Good job, looking forward to future chapters.

Oh, thank you for picking up on that, Rikki -- had a few people wondering about his age, but his 'chutzpah' as you say is exactly what I was building on. Many of my characters are modeled off young men and women I have known through volunteering as well as teaching and there are some that are just cut from a completely different cloth from the very beginning! ;) :) I am so very glad you've decided to tune in for more chapters -- this is going to be a fun challenge for me.... a complete chapter in ONLY 500 words is certainly a lofty goal (LOL!), but I'm really looking forward to it!! ;) ;) Just gotta make sure the imagination/keyboard connection is kept under control...LOL! ;) LOL! :) Thanx for the review and take care out there! ;) Yvette

The Secret Garden was my first reader. An I had a View Master to show me the most worlds most beautiful gardens. Yvette you have a task for Nicholas.

I took the bait and I was hooked from the beginning! Suddenly I found myself intrigued with this witty, somewhat pithy lad and his humor that could reach the heart of Sir Phillipe ...and guess what? I'm glad this contest was developed too because I am invested now...just what lurks in those gardens, beyond the Gnome? I'm counting on a fun tale with some unexpected twists! Enjoyable yarn and I want more!--Karenina

Oh, Karenina!! Thank you so very much for your review, but, more than that, thank you for your enthusiasm!! ;) I'm actually looking forward to this challenge of writing an entire chapter in only 500 words...because that's what it's gonna be with me: a challenge!! :) ;) Usually once my imagination takes over my fingers on the keyboard, the thought of word count is completely out the window!! ;) ;) So glad you're looking forward to it as much as I am -- we'll have to be sure to make Constantine worth it, yeah?! :) ;) Thanx again for stopping in, ma'am, and have an awesome week ahead! ;) Yvette

Good luck in the contest Yvette. This was definitely eye catching and prompted both thought and interest. If made me think that indeed there was more to the vines, the trees, the beautiful flowers and your last paragraph showed that to be true. And because of the thinking it held my interest which of course made me think more, I do believe I could say it became a vicious circle. Well done.

Thanx so much for stopping in on this one, Ali -- I'm treating this contest/starter as my monthly challenge to actually produce a complete chapter in only 500 words... hope you hang on with me! ;) :) Take care out there! ;) ;) Yvette

Yvette,

Well, you've certainly left us at a cliff-hook. I think you are hateful and horrid for that. And now we must wait thirty days for this resolution? Egads, woman -- have you no heart?

Otherwise, well done. And quite enjoyable. Thanks!

You always put a smile on my face, ma'am! :) But, as I said in my author notes, I'm gonna treat this as my challenge and write a chapter a month that is only 500 words... gonna be fun, I think, and I'm glad you may (perhaps? yes?) give me a second chance to prove that a have a heart... or at least make the case for it with Constantine... :) LOL! :) Thanx for the review, Beautiful Lady, and I'd still like to have coffee/tea somewhere this summer! ;) Yvette

This is really a lovely story and I love the characters. So well written with a bit of humor. I do not often review stories, they cost me a lot of time because English is not my first language. This one was so nice to read.
I look forward to follow the next chapter. Fia

Hooray!! I am so very glad that you were able to enjoy this one, Fia!! ;) And thank you for those wonderful stars!! :) You know, I believe the fact that these are only 500 words per month is a great challenge.... and it's gonna be good practice for me to sortof tell a story (with long term aspects) in that limited number of words. So, yes! Absolutely, look for more! And I am thrilled that you will be joining Nicholas on his adventures! ;) ;) Take care over there and I hope the moving plans are going well -- let me know how you're doing there! ;) :) Yvette :)

Hello, Lady of the South, this is cool... you sure set yourself up for a lot of writing projects! First you've got to finish Maggie, then there's the next one you promised from the last chapter contest, now this? I know there will be all kinds of poetry and stuff in between... you're going to be a dynamo! :)
Will it let me do this again as a refresher? I suppose I'll see! :)

Yeah, but this one is only 500 words per month.... it's gonna be good practice for me to sortof tell a story (with long term aspects) in that limited number.... I love to write, but when the mind and fingers get going, the word count is long forgotten! ;) ;) So, I actually consider this one my challenge-to-self...if that makes any sense! ;) ;) Thanx for the review, O Lady of the Northeast, and thanx especially for your belief in me -- that means the most of all! :) ;) Yvette :)

Well, that's sure interesting. YOu've got a book by the "tale" here and you'll keep on, you're telling us. Good characters, humor, intriguing place to work this out. Good luck

Wonderful job. That was a delight to read. The tone is perfect, and the reader cannot help but like the characters, especially the precocious Nicholas. I cannot think of any improvements.

Oh, yes, our Nicholas is going to have his hands full, Sir James -- mark my words! :) I think Sir Philippe might have know this.. :) ;) So glad you're intrigued and I hope you will join Nicholas every month! ;) ;) Thank you for those lovely stars, but, most of all, thank you for your wonderful comments and enthusiasm!! :) ;) Take care and have a wonderful weekend! ;) Yvette

Good Morning, Yvette!
You had me at "Gardens!"
Ah... but then you wove in a delightful set of characters and a gnome to boot! I always wanted to be the groundskeeper at MSU! Guess I will have to settle on my own rambling "acre of possibilities!"
Love the premise and ease of tempo in your offering!
Looking forward to next chapter!
Thank you!
Diane

Wow!! Well, I have to say, I am SO VERY GLAD that you enjoyed this one because YOU, Lady Diane, are the impetus for the direction of my crazy imagination on this!! :) Seriously, this deadline crept up on me about the time you sent me all the wonderful pics of your garden and my blonde brain took off from there!! Don't you worry...that bench will be in here somewhere, too!! :) ;) It'll be a challenge to keep each chapter to 500 words, but I do like a good challenge! ;) ;)
Hope the gardens are about ready just for 'regular maintenance' up there and...you never know, there may be a Constantine watching you in the morning! ;) ;) Take care and thank you for everything including your encouragement and smiles! ;) Yvette :)
