Someone told me that word the other day Author... I said, "Mmmm, I love the way it smells after it rains." The person I was with told me it was called, "Petrichor"... perhaps they're just smart... perhaps it's not so obscure? lol ;)

well, it was obscure to me. I'd never heard it until I found it when I was looking at obscure words online. It is a neat one to remember.

Author, I must admit I've never read or heard this word until just now, so you've done well in choosing an obscure word.

A lovely poem to illustrate its meaning and I wish you much luck in the voting booth. :)

thank you so much. One guy who answered said he was adding it to his "personal dictionary", which I thought was such a good idea, I'm going to start one, myself.
Thanks again for your good wishes.

A very well-written obscure word 7-9-7 poem. The unique smell after the rainfall is the best smell we ever smell. The freshness and the wet ground makes the colors even more vibrant.

I absolutely LOVE that smell -- of course, we're getting a lot of opportunity to enjoy it recently!! :) This is a wonderful offering for the contest because it truly engages the reader and doesn't just 'put it out there'! ;) ;) Thanx for joining us and best of luck at the polls! ;) Yvette

-Nice image
and presentation.
-The syllable count is good.
-The imagery and
rhyme are effective.
-You made good use
of your obscure word,
by using personification
of the earth's scent,
and concluding with bright colors.
-Good luck in the contest.

Now here is a word I instantly added to my personal dictionary. We had the wettest May in history and I wondered what that glorious scent afterwards was called. You are so right about colors being brighter, too. Rod

I am going to try my best to remember it - but the way things are going these days, it's doubtful it'll stick in the old brain. But it'd be fun to throw it out there and watch people's expressions.
Aren't you smart to keep a personal dictionary. I think I'll get a little pocket book and start one. thanks for your kind words and the nifty idea.

I like this - and there is that pleasant smell after a rain. After is what I like. God sent mist up from the ground in the Garden of Eden. Kind of wish he'd do the same today - rain spoils many plans.
but seriously - nice poem.
