Hello Jaybird, this is a lovely poem and a fine dedication to your poet friend. Well rhymed with good aabb throughout. Your line 'and peace and joy to him bring,' has seven beats while the rest has eight. Perhaps a word between 'him?bring' - can, will, etc. It is such a lovely poem and the rhythm is perfect but for that line. You write good poetry and this is no exception. Warm regards Dorothy

It's sad and hard to lose these great minds - those who've expressed themselves so wonderfully during their lifetime and who have blessed your life because of it. I regret that I never took a class from William Stafford, our Oregon Poet laureatte who died so many years ago. He taught all over the place - it would have been easy to sit in and listen.
I feel I know him however, as I have all of his books and refer to them often. Prayers for your friend's family.

Sorry for you lost, what a great eulogy for a star hoisted in the sky to shine now!
You have my condolences and high regard. Another great poem my friend, for someone special indeed.

A lovely tribute, Jaybird. As always, you fill your poems with poignancy and subtle elegance. I suspect your friend would appreciate your words and sentiment. Maybe you should share one of his poems with us here...just a thought. Nice job!

Poets and people all have an end. But when words meant to enlighten by the poets soul is taken away, we all lose out . Bless this poet and the many more before him. The true ones must have a place in heaven.

This is a beautiful tribute to the loss of your poet friend. I'm sure he will enjoy reading your sonnet in Paradise.
Sorry for your loss Jay. Take care of yourself...Bill

As is said in the last two lines, we all wish the rest of the poem could be used to describe ourselves. It is also a good remembrance of your friend who died. Sorry for your loss.
Keep writing.

So sorry to learn about the loss of your dear friend, Jay.
You have my sincere condolences.
But, hey, Heaven needs good poets. Someone has to help with the writing of all those Heavenly hymns the choruses of angels sing.
Your aabb rhyme scheme, even meter and easy-going flow make for a good read.
A well written, heartfelt poetic tribute to your friend.
