Yes that is true about things of the past that meant so much to us.
Your poem has a nice rhyme to it and good luck in the contest.

You were lucky enough to have a carousel in your neighborhood??? Lucky you. We had to wait until Fair time came around. This was a fun prompt nudging us back down memory lane. The best to you in the contest.

well, it was centrally located in a neat shopping center, but the whole thing's gone now, center and all. It was fun for the kids. Grown-ups, too.
    Thanks for your good wishes!

My - they take all the fun out of things at times - often it's for liability reasons I guess. But this carousel brought so much job. They've tamed down all the playgrounds too - the merry-go-round, monkey bars, etc. Sure, we fell - some got hurt - but how much better than the videogames.
good poem

you're absolutely right, but this one closed because the shopping center was losing stores and eventually the whole place closed down.
I have heard from people saying they still have carousels in their towns. Good for them!

This is a well-written, exuberant, charming poem that makes excellent use of specific details to describe a scene of joy and delight for all ages. The mall near me still has a carousel.

This is a wonderful poem and it DID bring back memories of my own days riding the carousel. Your piece is well described. Two favorite stanzas are the fifth and seventh. Good luck in the contest. Marilyn

A very well-written poem about the carousel that was a part of our childhood that we will not easily forget and it is very sad that our grand children may not ever have the pleasure of those memories.

I don't know of any shopping centers around me that ever had a carousel that was FREE to ride. Good description of the "steeds" and all those who rode them. Your ending becomes a bit too editorial, but overall I enjoyed this contest entry. Good luck. Rod

thanks. actually that center's carousel was free, as I remember it, and probably one of the reasons the whole place finally folded. It was a long time ago and I guess the stores paid for it.
Will see what I can do with the ending.

This poem tells about a shopping mall had a carousel where people of all ages, kids visit and played games, it had option to give joy to everyone visits, suddenly the centre closed down; well said, well done. Write to inspire, change -- DR ALCREATOR

This is a fun write and full of the fun a carousel brings to a town and we have one in our park every year, it is a beautiful piece of equipment and brings much joy to many kids and the rides are pretty expensive! Your rhyming here is superb and has a unique bounce reminding me of that spinning ride and the up and down horses, love Dolly x
