"The Woodland Marching Band", is an extremely well-written and delightfully descriptive piece. This talented poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review. To me, this is a six, but unfortunately I only have fives left. I look forward to seeing your next post.

Fun poem! I read it to my five year old grandson...(We are having a sleepover!)--and he marched about the house imitating the animals! He said you must be FAMOUS to write such "good stuff!"--Karenina

So lovely and imaginative and certainly reflective of someone who knows and loves animals well! I wondered why you chose to have these as long lines instead of two shorter lines?
"Parades are few and far between, and some aren't very good." could be:
"Parades are few and far between,
and some aren't very good."
And then you'd have a 8/6/8/6 ballad meter.
Just a thought! Loved it!!

I don't know. I guess I get tired sometimes of writing short lines. You're right, it could have gone that way, but I though the longer lines held attention better. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm happy you like it.

How could I possibly award this wonderfully well written & rhymed poem for children anything other than a six, Yvonne?
I'm just glad I still had one to give you.
A frolicking, fun musical menagerie extravaganza.
Bravo!

My heart had me in the hospital again for a few weeks, Yvonne.
That's why I haven't been around much lately.
    It's a great poem--you're more than welcome.

I'm so sorry, Dean, but glad you're back. Take good care of yourself.

I spent a week in hospital back in April. It was no fun.

I could not resist reading your poem after seeing the colorful, eye-catching picture! I enjoyed your alternating rhymes in the quatrains and the antics of the different animals. Cheers- Joan

Hi Yvonne. This is such a cute and well done poem for your club. I liked all the animals, but especially the weasel. Good rhyming and flow with great illustration. Marilyn

A most enjoyable read for the words, the story line, the animal characters and the marching rhythm.

With the right illustrations this would make a wonderful book.

Nicely done, poet.

This is such a cute little poem about the animals and the marching band. I think you really tapped into what thrills children. And the picture you chose is so appropriate. I can see why you are an accomplished poet at number 26! Well done!
