Hi Jesse, I really like the message in this write about seeing the humanity in all people. Your observations apply to a lot of people that dismiss poverty as someone else's fault, and simply not their problem. It's sad that so many can be so selfish to the suffering of others...

Selfish and heartless. Blaming others for their misfortune is not only wrong, but it placates them into seeing it as none of their business. Homelessness is everybody's problem. Humanity, of which you speak, is in short supply these days. I am glad you like the message and show compassion and caring. Thank you for reading, reviewing, and for taking the time to care.
    Take care, Jesse

So sad, but true. Just ignoring a problem does not erase it. But that unfortunately is how many choose to deal with the homeless. They will not disappear just because we refuse to look at them. Thank you fir shining a light on this issue.

-Nice image, Jesse.
-This is a good poem
that outlines the
homeless problem
in your area.
-It is such a massive
one that I don't know
what kinds of answers there are.
-I would think that service
organizations would lend a hand.
-I don't think hand outs are the
answer, but then, what is?
-I am sure you are right
about there being more
to take their place.
-The concluding line is
a good one and shows
how many people probably think.
-Thanks for sharing; I hope
there are some strategies
that can be part of the solution.

Thank you, Pam, for your inclusive, insightful review. I appreciate you addressing the problem and possible solutions, or lack thereof. I think awareness is the first step. Then, compassion for others less fortunate. The actions needed to take place are multiple and complicated. Approached as the serious problem that it is, we can come up with solutions if we put our minds together. What many of them need, is a hand up, not a handout. Thank you for letting me get on my soapbox. Now, I'll step down. Thank you for reading, reviewing, and for caring.

You are very welcome for the review and observations. You have the right idea. The hardest thing is implementing them. It isn't possible for just a few people, but it's a start. Maybe a few can grow to more. I know you care, too.

Thank you. I do care, very much so. One day, it could be me who needs a hand up. I hope someone is there to offer it.

This certainly does speak for itself. Homelessness is a major problem in many countries. It sometimes seems the authorities are helpless to solve the problem but I don't think they try hard enough.

Thank you, Judy, for taking this seriously and seeing that not enough is done to help the homeless. "The authorities" are elected, most of them, by us. We need to impress on them the importance of finding solutions. Awareness, and then, compassion are the first steps needed, to be taken by all of us. Thank you for reading, reviewing, and most of all, caring.

This is a very well written poem about how some view the homeless. I wish they all had a place to stay and keep warm in the cold and cool in the heat. If we have a home with food and water we are truly blessed. Very good poem. Blessings, Teri

Thank you, Teri, for the compassionate review. Compassion is the first step. And, it is a big one. Thank you for seeing the importance of the issue of homelessness. We, who have a home, are very fortunate, and can't afford to take that for granted. I appreciate your positive words toward my writing skills. Thank you for reading, reviewing, and for caring.

It's become such a horrible problem esp. in the cities, where businesses have had to move because of sleepers in their doorways and trash and garbage right there. What is to be done? It's a huge problem. WE have many tent-livers in the woods near us. Many organizations try to feed, cloth, help with shelter. It's never enough.
You've presented the problem well - now what is the answer I wonder?

Thank you for spelling it out so succinctly. The homeless situation is getting worse all of the time. I think the answer is in multiple stages. First, awareness. Then, compassion. Then, working with our local governments to put a priority on solving the reasons people are homeless in the first place. At the local, county, state, and federal levels-we need to find real solutions to all of the causes of homelessness. No matter what your political leanings are, the answers are deep within us to care about our fellow human beings. That's my 'take' on it. I'm open to other solutions. Thank you for asking for an answer. That is the first step.

In my opinion, I regret I have no more Six Stars, because this relevant and timely write certainly deserves such praise - well constructed and striking in both smooth verse and imagery - an important issue effectively presented...

Thank you so much for the 'virtual' sixth star! That means as much to me as the 'real' extra star. I love your synopsis of the piece. I thank you, kindly, for the wonderful words of praise for a work well done. I appreciate your thoughtful caring to see the importance of this issue. Thanks, again, for the excellent review.

Wow -- what a sad commentary on attitudes and such... :( ;( This is one of your writes, Jesse, that really hits home because instead of 'preaching to' your reader, you take the approach of telling a story so that the reader's feelings get 'caught up' and they end up invested before they are aware of it! ;) ;) Great Job! And those tall, ice-covered trees do a complimentary point to your poem as the illustrate the cold isolation of those that live up and away from the problem... Thank you for sharing! ;) Yvette

Thank you, Yvette, for nailing how I was trying to come across. Thank you so much for your kind, thoughtful words. I am glad you noticed my choice of the ice-covered trees to represent the isolation so many homeless feels. I always appreciate your 'take' on my posts. Thank you for reading, reviewing, and for caring.

Thank you for confronting this difficult, social issue, with many individuals across our country being representing by "Patrick". Even those who support housing for the homeless do not want it in "their backyard". We still have a long way to grow before we are capable of judging others "by their character" rather than their appearance. Sighs- Joan

Yes, it does cross the lines of whether to ignore the problem or do something about it. I like your analysis on the long way we have to grow to judge others fairly. There are a lot of "Patricks" in our country. Good, upstanding people who just don't want to get involved. Thank you, Joan, for your supportive and insightful review. It means a lot.

I appreciate your accepting attitude about those who do not agree with you. I have been trying to "catch folks doing the right thing" as opposed to being disturbed by their failures!

This is a very well-written, heart-wrenching poem. Homelessness is
on the rise. The reasons are myriad. I won't pretend to have an answer
to the question, "How do we get them all off the streets, working at good-paying jobs, on health insurance, etc.!
