Feeling a little cynical, are we?
I suspect it's the illusion of love that's the jest.
A lure. Bait we're all to ready to snap at.
Love is, and cannot be blamed for what love is not.
I've fooled, and been fooled. But love cannot tote that weight.

This is a fascinating poem and I sincerely do appreciate it. Especially the part about being drowned at baptism and being raised by wolves. With love, you do have to have a sense of humor. I believe that I've been in love at one time or another since I was five years old and attracted to the little girl across the street who was 7. I am now 72 And I'm still in love and I laugh every day. Your work here has reminded me of that. Best wishes.
