I love this tribute to Lady Spring. My garden has perked up in the past two weeks and it is evident this lass is back!
This traipsing lass whose sleeveless stola flaps
about her sandaled feet has sparkling eyes.
With childlike laugh, delightedly she claps
her pale small hands to hush the magpies' cries.
Thank you for painting with words such a beautiful scenario. Winter has finally decided to move on.

A poetic read, smooth inviting statements I found compelling to my interests, touching viewpoints gripping the mind with consideration of probabilities. All stated in my opinion of this write.

I like the way you have personified Spring and Winter in your poem. The artwork is also magnificent.
Spring here in Madrid is brief. We usually go from winter to summer in a day...
Thanks for sharing.

It is at times like this that it ticks me off that I don't have a six star to give. This poem certainly deserves it. All elements present and done beautifully! Superb job!

Wow! I am so impressed with your command of the iambic pentameter! I read it several times. You have so many beautiful images here too! Old Man winter was a surly guest! Spring is the welcome damsel!

What a lovely poem (and a pretty girl to accompany it). It has such lovely imagery and flows so smoothly... I particularly like how the lines run on in the first 2 stanzas (is that called enjambment?). The personification of the seasons works very well.
And because I did Latin in high school, I knew what a stola was!

Hi Lisa. I am delighted you made the acquaintance of Damsel Spring and enjoyed the personification. Yes, lines running on is called encampment. Many thanks for sharing. Rod

This is an excellent entry in this sonnet poetry contest Rod. I like the way you present the past and present seasons, the personification of "Surly" old man winter, and the capricious, vibrant sprit of Spring, well done, written in iambic pentameter and ababcdcdefefgg rhyming. The perfect theme, articulate and smooth, good luck, blessings, Roy

Your creative and visually stunning to the minds eye sonnet when read has Impeccable meter and was a joy to read and behold. A refined write friend, I hope it does well in the contest for it would take something amazing to top what you have just presented. An easy 6 : ) Loved it!

Hi Rod. A lovely sonnet of springtime. A long time coming here in Wisconsin, but getting there. Your post is nicely illustrated and rhymed. Best of luck in the contest. Marilyn

Thank you so much, Marilyn, for sharing DAMSEL SPRING and your kind praise. Spring took her sweet time getting to northern Illinous, too, but I hope she lingers. Rod
