What a lovely story. The artwork to match, perfection. What times have been lived through! We sometimes cannot imagine it! This is a warm story and if grandmother only knew what she was bargaining for and with whom! Out of sixes, so sorry. Great job.

This is a pleasant narrative, with a poignant ending. I liked it.
Here is just one thing you might like to consider:
...as if there was no tomorrow - This is sort of cliché. Personally I try to avoid clichés. Maybe look for something more original that will convey attitude and add to the characterisation of the narrator? Something with impact.

A well told tale of a revered painting. There are many ways this story could have taken place I find your view most interesting and enlightening. Well done.

I see it comes under general fiction, Maria, but you have created a story from that picture that feels so real it left me wondering if it was your grandmother. This is an incredible story, the ending with the grandmother having a lucid moment in her dementia explaining why she allowed the artist to paint the family, was just perfect. These stories of yours are diamonds, my friend, you are so creative with stacks of talent. Well done. :)) Sandra xx

Thanks. I'm glad it sounded so believable. Another reviewer thought it was actually true.

This is a great story built around the famous painting. What a creative idea, using it to point out the hardships during WWII. I was a WWII baby, and remember hearing a lot of things that were unavailable for a long time.

A very well-written heartfelt story. Mothers and grandmothers will do anything to make their families happy and to keep them fed, they will go the extra mile.

MJ,
What a great story. And who WOULDN'T do such a small thing like that for their family?? And, of course, she had no idea at the time that her family would be immortalized in that painting. *smile*
Some notes:
1.) 'I won't bother you for long(,) he said, as if he had read my thoughts.
2.) she said,(space)'I only did it for the turkey. He gave me the turkey.'
Thanks - I enjoyed!
