Very wise words. We should concentrate on what we can create to compliment what was done before. We are unique and have much to add. Your poem reminds us to contribute not take.

This a very good Nonet Poetry contest entry. I'm impressed, even with the inverted configuration. I'm sure your nonet poem will do very well. I feel it is "exceptional".

Very profound and works nicely as a nonet.
Slaves to our history? It's hard not to be influenced by it, since all of one's life at any moment exists only in the past. But there are some events that leave lasting scars, and it's best to leave them alone. Picking at the scabs only draws fresh blood. As Abe Lincoln said, you have to make up your mind to be happy.
Innocence is taught to hate,
Love and trust - they're innate. <-- lines expressed beautifully!

Thanx so very much for your wonderful comments on this one, Phyllis -- so hard sometimes to see folks who cannot walk away from things in their past.... influence and memories are one thing, but if we don't make a stand and change the cycle, it won't change on its own... :) Take care! :) Yvette

A wise selection of a path to manage endeavors, finding a clear head in its projected handling, making this statement a treasured viewpoint I will hold to mind. A super conveyance in my opinion.

Peace to you, O Lady of the South!
Yep, your nonet is right on the money, IMO, though some might not agree -- our past CAN be an determining factor of our future behavior, but it doesn't HAVE to be.
Sage advice. Best of luck with the judges.

Thanx so much for your wonderful comments, Dawn, and who knows with the judges.... LOL! :) :) I just get so tired of all the division on the airwaves and elsewhere that seems to be based somewhere in the past... gets disheartening sometimes!! :) :) You take good care up there and I'll be working toward that last graduation down here!! :) ;) Yvette :)

Peace is what we all want, but many cannot forget to let bygones be bygones and bring up dead history and disagree with every thing one says. Yvette I'm glad that you can see. :) This is a good entry for the Nonet Poetry Contest.

This is so true. I need it on a desk plaque in my classroom! I know this in my head but it is so hard to put it into practice. Thanks for the timely reminder and best wishes in the contest!

Truth found in few words and in the form of a nonet. Your notes to the reader speaks volumes of you beliefs as well. How often do we feel shackled (tethered) by those around us, or legacy through no choice of our own. Best of luck in the nonet. Looks like a winner to me :) Loren

I agree completely with your ethos Yvette, the past shouldn't be our slave, like a poor parent repeated, or old inaccurate proverbs repetitively believed, they deserve to be discarded, like any other trash. Well done a wonderful entry in this Nonet contest, blessings, Roy
