Hello Linda!
How rude for whoever told you that you are "too old!" Good Grief!
I enjoyed your poetic offering. As a society, we adulate the young, and yet, those "of a certain age" are often cast aside. Perceptive and filled with keen visual and emotive imagery.
Thank you!

Hello, Linda. Being a writer I believe encourages people to persevere even when the writing does not go well. I'll be 72 next month. My advice is to develop a sense of humor concerning our age. But only two rejections should not leave a writer dismayed. You just approached two people that think they are younger than they actually are. Don't give up, don't give in... and don't count the "now" just the next "YES". Iwish you well, Younger lady than I.

Somehow our communication is a bit time disoriented. But that's OK, so ...Happy Birthday! We made it this far, who knows?

This is a sad lament but I think the author simply needs to find better dates. You are never too old to give and receive love. Just based on your screen name, I'd bet you are a bundle of life and fun, and that's what those two idiots are missing. There are plenty more who will appreciate the gifts you have to offer. Don't give up! I loved this poem. It was well written and quite clever.

MissMerri: thank you so much for reading and understanding. I'm 71 now and have decided I will probably end my life alone which is not how I wanted it to be. Linda

A sad but enjoyable poem. I do not know the feelings of old age, nor the consequences that come with it, but I appreciate the poem truly. I don't think that old age should cancel feelings of love, love should be forever.

The change is insidious, from being indispensable to becoming expendable! However, never give up hope. My mother-in-law got re-married at the age of 84 to a charming gentleman of 88 who was still working as a solicitor when he wasn't supporting the men who had served in his regiment, and the widows of those who did not return. They had 10 very happy years together. She passed away last year at the age of 101.

Tony, what a story! I wake up each day with a little hope, worn thin by choosing the wrong people to begin with! LOL Thanks for reading. Linda

Dear Lady, your author notes had me laughing, but I took seriously the disappointment and loneliness expressed in this wonderful poem. Every verse you created is full of wisdom and is poetically powerful.
I truly love this poem.
Hugs and blessings to you :)

I'm sorry you had to go through that. People can be really insensitive sometimes. Anyway, I'm glad the experience gave you the idea to write this beautiful poem.
I love the bit about your hair going white and not from fright.
For what is worth, I think we are never too old to love.
Thanks for sharing.

In my opinion, such a sad lament at the prospect of growing old - well written, but a premise with which I cannot agree. Perhaps my outlook of considering sources in my dealings with people, especially men, serve to divert any feelings of rejection or isolation. With my husbands, I was never left to my own devices. They were immersed in everything concerning me, and I felt suffocated much of the time. So, though I am quite alone today, I am not lonely. I would suggest joining a Senior Center and becoming involved in an area of your particular interest. You will then be among those men who share your interest and who will look at your mutual interest and beyond your age...

evesayshi: thank you for reading and commenting. It is NOT me who has the problem with age. It was two possible interests, both within 2 to 5 years of my age, who decided I was too old. It flattened me for a couple of days but then I was back, active in my church again and being helpful to others which always makes both feel better. Linda

You are very welcome, Linda, but I am so sorry for my misinterpretation, but it seems to reflect the nuance of the write and your Notes, which prompted my comments. Disregard, then, my words and consider instead that your write touched a reader in a very personal way - to which most us as writers aspire...Eve

Did they want to start a family? They were fools to not spend some time with a lady of beautiful words and sincere feelings. Keep fishin'!!! Now, I turned 71 last week. I laugh that the candles cost more than the cake! Let us enjoy the great memories of life, and find opportunities for more. Write on...

Linda,

Oh no, no. You must not look at it that way. Obviously those two were simply losers who don't know a good thing when they see it. There is someone our there who will know a good thing - you just have to be patient. In the meantime, go out with friends and have FUN! Don't let the downers get you down. Sending hugs --

Thank you, Robyn, for reading and for your advice. It isn't me who feels that I'm 'too old' . . . it was hearing it from two other people that disturbed me. Linda
