This is a well composed poem, called an Idyl. Another interesting form that is intriguing. Poem is illustrated festively and speaks of gathering for lighthearted fun (with responsibility.) Great job. Marilyn

Thank you for sharing your idyl about the contemporary activity of celebrating happy hour. I enjoyed your addition of alliteration to intensify the theme. Your wise advice in your notes is much appreciated as well. Cheers--literally! -Joan

It is well written. It certainly is fine narrative. but I agree that it doesn't quite carry the "High Language" aspect. For example, that firsts line:

Friday afternoon at five o'clock brings freedom

would be more like:

Friday, as bells toll five O'clock's eager freedom

A very well-written idyll poem about the things that make you happy and make you feel to be a person. After a long week, many people need some time with friends to relax.

Hi Alicia,

Your poems are always refreshingly unique. This one is no exception. "First and foremost do not expect too much." (my fave line). "A few drinks and these beasts are ready for the wild." ... luv it! You have a way of expressing your thoughts as they come (honest and from the heart).

Yes Friday nights were always welcomed when working full time ... a much needed release from the pressures of the weekly grind.

Hugs,
Connie

This poem, Happy Hour, brings us all the a familiar spot where the end of the work week is acknowledged with laughter and a couple beers. Nice.

Some excellent advice dear Alicia, an excellent work, as a reformed drunk, I agree with you wholeheartedly, it's not sound judgement to drink and drive, and of course there's a new kid on the block, drugs. Beautufully written my friend, Roy

Hi Roy! For some reason, people that drink aren't the people on drugs. At least around me in California. I didn't think about drugs, but you're right we must be careful in many ways now. I'm glad you're doing great. God bless you. And thank you. Hugs, Alicia :)

This was a good read, sunnilicious. I liked the way you capture the reader's attention at the beginning and really do a good job with relating the atmosphere during this time at happy hour. Well done.

According to what you wrote an idyll is supposed to have a romantic tone, I don't really find this to have a particularly romantic tone. I don't know what you mean by high language, is that words we wouldn't know off hand?

Hi! Boastful verbiage I suppose. I'm a fun gal, but single. Maybe, I'm terrible at romance. Thank you :)

You make it sound fun. It's always good to be able to hangout together with friends and workmates outside of work and in a comfortable, casual environment.
