I love the way you address our need for war, as you so aptly entitle this piece. The stark presentation adds to the tension and commentary, very well. I like how you start out with ancient history, then switch to our present day's misery of xenophobes and closed minded thinking. My favorite stanzas are the fourth and final ones. I especially love the phrase, "then watch it on the nightly news." Then the final stanza sums it up nicely with, the reference to the jester, and the equal absurdity of "our strange need to fight." This is very well written, and I agree with your premise and conclusion. Thank you for sharing.
Take care, Jesse

You missed us too much, didn't you? Well, I for one am glad you are back to posting. This is another excellent piece, capturing the inhuman humanity that imaginary-friend inspired war is. Well done, and welcome back.

To be honest, I missed the forums -- the cut & thrust, and all that. Can't say I've been dying to post a poem or story again, but I figured membership costs too much not to submit something now and then.

Thanks for the great review, and the kindly welcome, Emma. Cheers, Craig

Hi Craig! Good to see you again. I feel the pain in your poem about the needless violence surrounding religious extremists. While I myself am guilty of myopic views, I think God would find everyone has missed the view He wanted us to have.

Hi Craig -

This explains where you disappeared to earlier. You have excellent rhyme and specific war references on many levels in this piece. As you alluded to, it is ironic to be known as humanity, given the inherent propensity for conflict that is ingrained in the human race. I wish I had the answer, but I don't think anyone does.

Nice job commemorating ANZAC Day. But, I thought you cancelled your subscription here? What's up with that?

I didn't cancel it, I just delayed renewing it. Not exactly sure why I capitulated in the end. I still don't feel a whole lot like writing much. I guess you've been hard at it for NaPoWriMo. Thanks for stopping by, and the kind review :) Craig

This has taken a much wider view of Anzac Day and really returns to the beginning, Craig. So many clearly stated thoughts that all return to the same place, we are the masters of our own demise.

A disheartened point of view that is as you so poetically state seen on the nightly news.

Excellent post.

Gloria

Glad I still have a six left for this. It's a justifiably pessimistic view, for we never seem to learn the lessons of history. Internecine strife and wars in the name of religion don't look like going away any too soon. I'm convinced that man invented gods as a justification for evil deeds just as much as for good ones.

I'm with you on that score, Tony. Many thanks for the delightful rating and the kind words. You've done well to still be in possession of a shiny extra star this late in the week, and I'm very grateful for the gift. Cheers, Craig
