Alaska's cold -- I'll let you keep
its mountains high and waters deep.
I see the first clear reflected
in the second waves deflected,
blurred the picture slightly there. In the rush for gold,
I got completely lost bound for -- Alaska's cold.

Alaska's dark -- those winter nights
would give me SADS. I like daylight
and warmth without a fur coat on,
and so I missed the plane that's gone
without me, landing where I'll not now make my mark,
and if I had you'd not have seen -- Alaska's dark.

    Hi Jim!

You know how much I love getting poetic reviews ;) so, come visit in the summer when it is 80 degrees and the sun doesn't set. Thank you so much for the brilliant reply!

A very well-written wrapped refrain, it seems Alaska is a wonderful place to stay, I love the northern lights 'auora' also, only seen on photos and videos till now. I believe the lifetime experience would be very exciting.

This poem is very well-written, exuberant, and appealing--making effective use of specific details to let others know how much your state has to offer.

Dear Dovey, Thanks for telling me about the wrapped refrain style. I know you love your state of Alaska, it has given you a lot of experience, and a lot of things to remember and write about. Donna

Gee it looks beautiful up there. The pristine nature like you write in your poem, beyond compare. The wrapped refrain is one I haven't tried, so it's likely you have inspired me.

I really enjoyed this one too, Kim.

    Hi Gloria!
I will talk about Alaska endlessly as long I keep getting these wonderful reviews :) Thank you for all of the kind comments. It is the first wrapped refrain I've written, too. Thus is the nature of Potlatch.

This is a beautiful poem, Kim, and I can tell that it is written from your heart! "My doorway leads to wilderness -- I love to share" ... this is so sweet; and "humility and life lessons" ... what wonderful things Alaska has given you!

Great job on this Wrapped Refrain poem, Kim!

Hugs,
Connie

Hi Kim. I like the picture of you taken in that tranquil spot. You look so happy there. Your wrapped refrain speaks of your love of your beautiful state--Alaska. I agree with you. I've been there. Well described and rhymed. Marilyn

    Hi Marilyn,

This was my first try at a wrapped refrain and I had fun with it on one of my favorite topics to write about. I'm thankful that you all never tire of hearing about Alaska! I appreciate all of your kind comments.

I love this poem, nice rhyme and shows how much you love your state. You have advertised your state very well, perhaps too well. People won't want to leave.

    Hi Willie -
Usually, when the temps drop below -20, all but the hearty are ready to pack up and go home lol Thank you for this exceptional rating and review. Yes, I do love my state! :)

You are a great spokesperson for Alaska and make it very clear why you love your state. I especially think your second stanza defines your feelings best. I am not a big fan of the Wrapped Refrain format, but it certainly EMPHASIZES your message here. Rod

    Hi Rod,
This is the first wrapped refrain I've written, so I took it to one of my favorite topics. I'm so glad that it worked for you, even though you aren't a fan of this style of poetry. That speaks volumes. I appreciate the time you've taken to read and review.
