I haven't heard the term 'smushing' before but I agree it's very annoying. How sincere can it be when someone you barely know puts ox (or rather xo- lol) after comments?

Hahaha. Point well taken, Judy. I definitely earned that. I need to practice what I preach.

Oh sorry. Did I put my foot in it? My husband says I only open my mouth to change feet. Maybe he has a point. :(
-
No, it's fine; you're one hundred percent right.

Very clever! I love the word SMUSHES... will have to remember that.I I'm guilty of smushing words, I admit, but I do it for effect, not out of laziness. For examole: whatshisname, forgodssake, and a few others. But I wouldn't smush just any words. So maybe I'm a borderline smusher. :)

I don't find those examples annoying; they're not for the purpose of conveying feelings to another person. So I think you get a clean bill of smush!
Thanks for the fun review. I loved it.

Hi Rachelle, I want you to know that when I tell you that you write some of the funniest stuff I read, I mean it! It isn't just thoughtless gushing and I don't say it to everyone! ... oh and btw... I don't love you cuz I don't really know you. I hope you aren't offended... I do think you're probably a ton of fun but I'm not that kind of girl... hahahahaha!

Hahahahaha.
One of the perks of having been an educator so long is that I haven't had an ego in decades, so you can pretty much say whatever you want, and I won't be offended!!
Thank you for the hilarious review!

Totally agree - "haveagoodday" is meaningless - unless spoken with meaning because perhaps it's raining and you wish to encourage the person to whom you suggest they have a good day.
A great way to describe these run-on words. Word smushes.
Thanks for a good poem

Omigosh!! You are SOOO right about that one, Gail!!! I can't believe I left that one out!! Or, its cousin: "HaveAGoodOne!" Ugh!
Thanks for the fun review. I loved it. xo

And another that we've noticed that drives us nuts. Every time you give an order to a barrista or a waiter, they say "perfect". Before that it was "Cool" and so forth. do they even know what they say?
-
Obviously not.

OK, I'm guilty of gushing, but not smushing. I gush because it's what I truly want to say, and fewer words don't quite get my meaning across. At least I'm an honest gusher.
Regarding your poem (yes, this was meant as a review, not a "disgushion"), I love the smooth flow and the intelligent rhymes (my favorite being "curmudgeon" and "bludgeon"). You have a charming sense of humor, and just the right touch of "righteous indignation." My only question is why, in the last stanza, you "rhyme" "rushing" and "smushes" when "smushing" would have kept up both the meaning and the rhyme. (You know you're reading a good poem when you're able to focus on minutiae like that.) Otherwise, it's a very enjoyable read.

'Smushes' is a great coinage for these meaningless phrases. I'd include some of the desperately awful acronyms like OMG and LOL. In this largely Godless society, Oh, my God! seems to be blasphemy from the lips of professed atheists.

I found your poem very interesting, but all the time I kept wondering if you were talking about real life or about reviews...
I hope I'm not using a word smush when I say 'thanks for sharing.'

Hehehe! Yes indeed, I hear these sweet nothings...that's what they're tantamount to...nothings. The person is saying the same thing to every gal or guy. Yeah, I know what you mean, Rachelle.
Not guilty though!!
