Very nostalgic. This shows an old cowhand's longing for the Old West. things have a way of changing, and that cowboy life doesn't exist any more. We rarely see any new movies or TV shows that deal with the old West. I like that you mentioned so many of the historical figures we read about and who have been immortalized in movies. There is no new land to explore, and things have pretty much been tamed. But one can still have a longing for those times. Great work, and I like what you did with this. judi

    Glad you enjoyed this poem. Several members tried to read this as a history lesson. Far from it. Appreciate the review.

Poor man. His way of life is over for good and always, I'm afraid. I enjoyed reading all the things he did and places he'd been. I'm sure any other way of life would not be for him.

Given the requirement of a 4x10x10x2x400;
4 versus
10 lines per verse
10 syllables per line
every 2 lines rhyme
400 syllables

I feel you've done a stellar job combining the lore and history of the west into an abridged history recap, albeit out of order, but remarkable just the same. The transformation of the western state I live in (AZ) has changed dramatically just since my childhood. I can't imagine the old timers adapting to life in the not so wild west if they saw it now. Well done, Brett.

Good lament. The poem read smoothly and made sense when I read it. I did not see any errors to tell you about. Have a great afternoon. Shirley

I, too, lament the loss of the old west.
Sorry, but your chronology seems a little murky to me.
Your poem jumps decades--back and forth--without a pattern I can discern. I'm reading a mishmash, not history. I'm sorry.

Peace, Lee

Are you forgetting about Rodeo's, Brett? Cowboys are still alive and well. Come west young man, come west. My daughter has a full working ranch with cattle on the range. They have horses, cattle, sheep, and an occasional pig. Chickens and cat's and dogs. I did have until my husband died. Yes, the west has been tamed but I for one am glad. I'd rather just enjoy it on the TV. LOL Nancy:)

    Appreciate the review. The Old West will never be the way it was back in those days. So sad! And, I would have enjoyed living then.

What a wonderfully done piece on the end of the cowboy way and being able to include all the players and the action we so fondly remember in history. Excellent content, rhyme and flow
