An interesting essay, Ingrid. The thing that bothers you most about President Trump is his style. It's NYC construction worker. It's genuine. That's who he is. The vast majority of politicians are just as crass, just as crude, but they are professional politicians and have been taught to hide who they really are from the public. It's easier to be charmed by the gloss than to reach past it and evaluate the ideas.
The US is not Canada. We made a choice several centuries ago NOT to be Canada ... or Australia ... or any other part of what's become the British Commonwealth.
We are currently in flux, trying to decide whether we should retain the self-reliant ideals that make us different from the rest of the world, or if we should follow a path that is falling apart elsewhere. I suspect that we will choose to remain brash, somewhat uncouth, and distinctly American. We're a country made up of people who could not or would not fit in elsewhere. We, for the most part, believe that we need leaders, not rulers, and that those who want to "take care" of us really only want to gather power to themselves at the expense of our individual freedoms.
My friend, I know you don't agree. But you're Canadian. Our choices are ours, not yours.
If Canada can control North Korea's aggressive tendencies or police and feed the world, we welcome you to do so. Please. If your way is better, be grateful you're not American and enjoy your superiority. We begrudge you nothing, not even the freedom to vocally disparage our leaders and way of life.
The above is offered in honest and true affection. I don't live in your house, nor you in mine. We should probably both be grateful for that. Hugs. :)Nancy

I wrote a long response, but it disappeared so I shall try to summarize and still impart my response with sincerity.
You have never been my 'American' friend. I shared a walk with you, had infinite respect for your courage and stamina, and never once designated you, shuffled you into a file folder labelled American. You inspired me and I was very proud of the support I gave to your cause.
I can tell anyone to F**K off without the asterisks. I don't think NY mentality or language would make the slightest difference. I consider Trump a transitional tarnish to the office of the POTUS, not the defining reflection of America,
I have the highest respect for America. But, BYW. did you know Kim Jong-Un has a meeting with Putin this week?
No, I won't celebrate the country that brings peace to NA, I will pull out the pom-poms for any man or woman who accomplishes the task--even Trump.
Listen, poet Laurete, regardless the dirt beneath your feet, you are an outstanding woman and writer. Thanks for the stars.

I don't agonize over yje sound a tree falls when it falls in the forest - the sound / tree makes.
I don't think I ever stopped trying to answer the questuin. - question.
And, if either one of those statements are correct, what is common sense? - I've come to the conclusion that this idea doesn't exist. We're all too different and have different upbringings and sensibilities.

I haven't posted in 6 months and the reasons are obvious. I get very angry at myself for sticking my nose up at the same thing that I simply fail to do. In my case it is not knowledge, it's sloppy--no matter how hard I try. Thanks for the help...sincerely.
