A very sad example of how these brave souls are cut down when helping another. So very sad and many are either very young or so sad, also about to retire. Best of luck in the voting.

Goodness, I have to get the tissues out to read the entries in this contest! This is another heart wrenching piece, and one that points out that not only is the job of a Police Officer a risk to their life as soon as they don that uniform, but life itself can turn on a dime and snuff a life out. Ironic that he didn't die from the job itself, but rather an idiot who was driving stupidly. What a bloody shame, but what a fine poem! Good luck xoxoxoxox

Good poem expressing honor for police officers in the dangerous work that they do. It is really sad when one is killed with an accident as stupid as that. It could easily have been prevented.

This particular incident you describe occurred in Chicago and I could not believe the news reports. An excellent job of describing exactly what happened to the policeman. I also commend your uncommon use of ABCA rhyming.
